About this file

This is a Material Ordering Data sheet for corrosion-resistant steel bars per SAE-AMS-QQ-S-763D specification. The document specifies ordering requirements for Class 304 stainless steel bars in annealed condition. The selected finish is pickled or blast cleaned and pickled. Material must be furnished in exact 10-foot lengths and cannot use mill lengths. All individual lengths require continuous identification marking prior to shipment, with unmarked material subject to rejection upon delivery. The specification revision is dated August 2013 and was stabilized in March 2015; users should note this document is no longer state-of-the-art and may not represent current industry practice, though similar requirements may exist in other documents.

Additional requirements include cleaning as mandatory, retesting is permitted, and shipment preparation must follow level C standards per MIL-STD-129 marking requirements for all unit intermediate and shipping containers with reference to DLA Procurement Note C20. The forging size specified is 1" diameter. No special melting practice, allowances for machining, major stressed surface area designations, magnetic permeability testing, macrostructure sampling, forging prolongations, or special shipment marking are required. The material was prepared by Material and Technical Support with code 244.4.
