About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of two new sea strainers for the USCGC MOHAWK (WMEC 913), a United States Coast Guard cutter. The requirement stems from the need to replace existing SSDG/EDG (Ship Service Diesel Generator/Emergency Diesel Generator) sea strainers that supply cooling water and maintain power generation. Previous procurements resulted in poor-quality castings and unauthorized cadmium-plated hardware, which corrodes in saltwater environments and prevents generator operation. The contractor must provide two Model 72-44F-1SS, 3-inch duplex strainers with 150# ANSI flanged bronze construction, rated for 200 PSIG maximum pressure. Critical specifications include Monel material baskets with 1/32-inch perforations and 316 Marine-Grade Stainless Steel hardware; cadmium-plated hardware is strictly prohibited. All items must be 100% new equipment with no refurbished or surplus items accepted.

Vendors must submit with their initial proposal a Certificate of Origin/Buy American Act Compliance Statement, a detailed technical specification sheet confirming the Model 72-44F-1SS designation and material specifications, Material Test Reports or Certificates of Conformance verifying 316 Stainless Steel hardware and Monel baskets, and Factory Test Reports confirming assembly and pressure testing. Delivery is FOB destination to the US Coast Guard Yard at 2401 Hawkins Point Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21226, with a mandatory delivery deadline of December 15, 2026. The related solicitation (52000QR260027667) is a Request for Quote issued as a total small business set-aside under FAR Part 12 for commercial items, with pricing on a firm-fixed price basis including all delivery and freight charges. The Point of Contact is LT Alex Stoyka at 757-375-0549 or Alexander.R.Stoyka@uscg.mil.

Statement of Work (SOW)

For CGC MOHAWK SEA STRAINERS

1. Background and Current Observed Issues

The USCGC MOHAWK requires renewal of two (2) SSDG/EDG sea strainers to supply cooling water and maintain power generation. Previous procurements of similar strainers yielded poor-quality castings and unauthorized cadmium-plated hardware. Cadmium plating is prohibited on Coast Guard cutters because it corrodes rapidly in saltwater environments, leading to strainer failure and preventing the SSDGs from operating. Proper material specification is critical to prevent recurrence and maintain configuration management.
