About this file
This Material Description Sheet specifies requirements for a high-pressure air hose assembly with precise technical specifications. The document details a 1/2-inch internal diameter, 25-foot long flexible hose designed for temporary service with a minimum working pressure of 6,000 PSI and burst pressure of 24,000 PSI. The hose must be constructed with a conductive smooth bore PTFE liner, braided stainless steel alloy 304 or 316 reinforcement layers, and JIC female swivel fittings with 37-degree flare and ¾-16 thread at each end.
Suggested sources include specific models from US Hose, Pureflex Inc, Titeflex Commercial Products, and Kongsberg Automotive, with a note that "or equal" submissions are acceptable. Vendors must provide comprehensive technical documentation, including manufacturer cut sheets and contact information. Each hose assembly must undergo hydrostatic strength testing at 7,500 PSIG for 10 minutes, be assigned a unique serial number, and come with written certification of meeting NAHAD standards. The hoses are intended for installation between compressors and receivers, with consideration for potential cyclic load and "impulse service" conditions.

MATERIAL DESCRIPTION SHEET
HOSE ASSEMBLY, HIGH PRESSURE AIR, FLEXIBLE SMOOTH BORE
(1/2 INCH I.D. X 25 FEET LONG)
Stainless Steel Alloy 304 or 316 JIC Female Swivel, 37° Flare, ¾-16 Thread fittings on each end, with conductive PTFE inner core and at least two layers of braided Stainless Steel alloy 304 or 316 reinforcement.
SUGGESTED SOURCES:
The following hose models meet this specification:
1. US Hose, Jackson Industries 58 Series, Part Number S-8HP.
2. Pureflex Inc, Model: “Smoothflex” Ultra-High Pressure, ½” Size, Part # SU0830630603000 or SU0830430403000.
3. Titeflex Commercial Products, Part Number R154-8.
4. Kongsberg Automotive, Part Number T1710-08.
Or Equal
Record note: These hoses are installed between compressors and receivers will be exposed to a cyclic load which may meet the definition of “impulse service”. Impulse service reduces the manufacturer’s pressure rating of some hoses. This was considered in the selection of the listed hoses.
Or Equal Purchase Specification:
Hose, Nonmetallic, Multiple Tube & Cover: Coupled and Fully Assembled,
1. Size: 1/2” I.D. by 25’ long.
2. Nominal OD: .728” to .875” average.
3. Application: Temporary Service, High Pressure Air
4. Working Pressure: 6,000 PSI, minimum.
5. Burst Pressure: 24,000 PSI, minimum.
6. Rated bend radius: 5.7 inches.
7. Rated Continuous Temperature: -65ºF to 400ºF.
8. Must meet the requirements of SAE 100R8 & SAE 100R9.
9. No price quote or bid offer will be accepted without the vendor submitting hose and end fitting, manufacturer cut sheets or product description sheet attachments, which shall include as a minimum the technical characteristic of the components and the manufacturer’s address, telephone/fax number and manufacturer point of contact. The price quote must reference the manufacturer’s part numbers for the item quoted.
10. If requested, all quoting vendors must submit a five-foot long hose assembly to Shop 99 at government expense, for destructive testing analysis prior to PSNS & IMF Engineering Code 270TS approval to purchase.
11. PSNS & IMF Engineering Code 270TS must approve all exceptions and “Or-Equal” offer’s prior to purchase.
C/270TS POC Rich Calden 360-476-0872 or Phil Kostelac 360-476-7060.
Construction:
12. Tube: Conductive smooth bore PTFE liner core construction.
13. Reinforcement, 1st ; Layer: Braided stainless steel alloy 304 or 316.
14. Outer Cover, 2nd layer: Braided stainless steel alloy 304 or 316.
15. Hose end assembly: Hose crimp sleeves to be installed such as to be flush with the hose end fittings but not touch or overlap the end fittings themselves.
16. Each hose assembly shall have the following components installed at each end:
a. 1st Hose End; 304 or 316 Stainless Steel JIC Female Swivel, 37 degree flare, ¾-16 Thread fitting.
b. 2nd Hose End; 304 or 316 Stainless Steel JIC Female Swivel, 37 degree flare, ¾-16 Thread fitting.
Hose Test and Assembly Certification:
Each hose assembly shall be hydrostatically strength tested with commercial clean water as a test medium, at 7,500 (+100, -0) PSIG for 10 minutes. Each certified hose assembly is to be assigned by the manufacturer a unique serial number, to be permanently stamped or etch marked on the crimp ferrule of each hose end. The hose manufacturer shall certify that each hose assembly is free of leaks, deformation, excessive twisting, kinking, that the end fittings are not damaged or faulty, and that the end fittings are properly positioned on the hose ends, in accordance with NAHAD standards; also that the hose does not have breaks, abrasions, soft spots, bulges, or other defects in the outer cover. Written certification of satisfactory hose end assembly in accordance with NAHAD standards and satisfactory hydrostatically tested and certified (100% of hoses) shall be provided with shipped hose assemblies. Written certification shall include the witness signature of the tester, test date, and test pressure for each hose assembly.
