About this file
This document is Addendum #2 to Bid 002889 issued by LSU Health New Orleans for medical waste disposal services. The addendum provides clarifying questions and answers related to the bid, including current vendor information (Sharps - MWM), existing rates ($0.55 per pound), and specific details about waste disposal requirements. The document confirms that the Clinical Sciences Research Building (CSRB) is the only location generating pathological waste, with approximately 100 pickups per year and an estimated annual waste volume of 140,000 pounds.
The addendum mandates that vendors submit a single per-pound disposal rate that encompasses all direct and indirect costs, with no additional fees permitted such as stop charges, minimum pickup fees, or no-waste fees. The bid requires a comprehensive pricing structure where all expenses must be included in the base rate. The document emphasizes that the vendor cannot submit separate fees for pathological waste disposal services, and all costs must be consolidated into one per-pound rate. The waste volume data provided indicates a consistent annual generation of medical waste, with a note that 2023 volumes were slightly higher due to laboratory relocation and cleanout activities.

Q. Who is the current vendor providing services?
A. Sharps – MWM
Q. What are the current rates?
A. $0.55 per pound
Q. Is it mandatory that vendors submit only one per pound disposal rate or may vendors submit a separate per pound disposal fee for pathological waste disposal services?
A. Yes, it is mandatory that the vendor should submit one per pound disposal rate that encompasses all costs (direct and indirect) and cannot submit additional fees. No, a separate disposal fee is not accepted.
Q. May vendors submit any additional fees such as a stop charge, minimum pickup or no waste fee?
A. No, every and all fees should be included within the bid price for disposal. No other fees or charges will be accepted on the invoice.
Q. Is LSUHSC able to provide more detailed information regarding the number of pickups and the volume of waste (containers or lbs) that each site location generates per pickup or per year?
A. We have two pickups per week, as stated in Section 3.1 of the bid document, except for those that fall on holidays/campus closures which are communicated ahead of time to the vendor, averaging ~100 pickups per year. We also have an estimated annual average volume of 140,000 lbs and the estimated volume percentages per pick up location provided in Section 3.1. The average volume of waste generated over the past two years was 143,000 lbs (2023 was higher than usual due to the MEB lab moves/clean out).
Q. Is the Clinical Sciences Research Building the only location that will be generating and disposing of pathological waste? If other sites will be generating this type of waste, can LSUHSC provide the average volume of this type of waste that the locations will generate per pickup or per year?
A. Yes, the CSRB will be the only location generating pathological waste.
