REQUIREMENTS FOR THE

TOW ITAS

MOBILE COLLECTIVE SKILLS TRAINER (M-CST)

Version 1.0 January 2010

1. TRAINING SYSTEM OVERVIEW

1.1. Background

The ITAS Collective Skills Trainer (CST) is a training device that allows ITAS crewmen to perform collective crew and unit tactical and operational training. Individual initial and sustainment gunnery training is performed on the ITAS Basic Skills Trainer (BST). When the gunners have completed their training on the BST and are qualified, they and the other members of a Wheeled Assault Platoon progress to the CST and begin performing more complex and advanced collective training.

The CST consists of 6 work stations (2 ITAS HMMWVs, 2 MK19/.50 CAL Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) HMMWVs, 1 Platoon leader HMMWV, 1 Instructor Station) locally networked together and currently employing the America’s Army graphics engine and terrain data bases. Each HMMWV work station consists of up to 3 operators (driver, commander and gunner).

The CST teaches soldiers to perform tactically as members of a Wheeled Assault Vehicle crew, as well as train the leaders and vehicle commanders to interact as elements of a Wheeled Assault Platoon, as shown in Figure 1. It focuses on soldiers being able to successfully perform all the collective and individual tasks necessary for a Wheeled Assault Vehicle crew to operate as part of a Section or Platoon and move, shoot and communicate.

1.2. System Description

The Mobile – Collective Skills Trainer (M-CST) will house a networked environment for the training of a Wheeled Assault Platoon which includes two ITAS HMMWV crews, two HMG (Heavy Machine Gun) HMMWV crews, one Platoon Leader’s (PLs) HMMWV and an Instructor Station. The purpose of the M-CST is to provide on-site pre-deployment, NETT Team and sustainment training for crews and leaders.

1.3. Trailer Requirements

A trailer approximately 53’ x 8.3’ with double expanding pop-out sides will be necessary for the M-CST. Each pop-out side will be approximately 36’ feet in length and 7’ in width. Figure 2 shows the trailer floor-plan and Figure 3 shows a 3D view. A graphics wrap will be applied to the outside of the M-CST.

Specifications for the 53'X13'-5" Trailer with double expanding pods is as follows:

· Hydraulics, level 3, leveling, actuating pod or tower

1.3.1. Floor Plan Requirements

The trailer will have a double door and ramp at the rear. All of the equipment will be mounted onto the main center section of the trailer floor. Figure 4 depicts approximate locations of the equipment.

Working from the rear of the trailer, the first workstation group will have a center wall that will hold three 3’ table tops on each side with partitions on each end. Mounted above each table top will be a bracket capable of holding a 32” flat panel monitor. At the forward end of the rear group there will be two shock mount computer racks, each capable of holding 6 rack mounted computers, a KVM, router hub, UPS, and speakers. Adequate spacing shall be allowed between each rack mounted computer so there will be no ventilation/heat related issues.

The next workstation group will have a center wall that will hold three 3’ table tops on each side, with a partition at each end. Mounted above each table top will be a bracket capable of holding a 32” flat panel monitor.

The next workstation group will have a center wall that will hold two 3’ table tops on each side, with a partition at each end. Mounted above each table top will be a bracket capable of holding a 32” flat panel monitor. At the forward end of this workstation there will be one shock mount computer rack with 6 computers, a KVM, router hub, UPS, and speakers. Adequate spacing shall be allowed between each rack mounted computer so there will be no ventilation/heat related issues.

1.3.2. Hardware/Equipment Requirements

· 16 LCD 32” monitors

· Shipping/Storage containers for monitors when in transport

· 18 U3-rack mount computers *

· 4 rack mount KVMs (Tripp Lite 8-port KVM switch with built-in 19” monitor or better)

· 6 rack mount UPS (1500 VA or better)

· 6 rack mount power strips

· 6 rack mount Ethernet hubs

· 5 steering wheel sets (Logitech MOMO racing)

· 6 head sets (USB)

· 5 Logitech Dual Action Game Controllers (USB)

· 3 shock mount computer racks

*U3-rack mount computer minimum requirement (or better)

· NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2

· Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600

· 8 GB Memory

· 750 GB Hard drive

· Windows 7

· 580 Watt power supply

1.3.3. Minimum Space Requirements

The minimum operator space requirements for the ITAS Wheeled Assault Platoon CST are as follows:

· Of the two ITAS HMMWV systems in the CST, EACH one requires a minimum of 6ft x 5ft cubicle space (for the driver and commander) and 6ft x 6ft of ITAS Student Station trainer space.

· Of the one .50 Cal HMG HMMWV system it requires a minimum of 9ft x 5ft of cubicle space.

· Of the one MK 19 HMG HMMWV system it requires a minimum of 9ft x 5ft of cubicle space.

· Of the one platoon leader HMMWV it requires a minimum of 9ft x 5ft of cubicle space.

· Of the one instructor station that requires a minimum of 9ft x 5ft of cubicle space.

· Each computer rack needs approximately 2.5ft x 2.5ft of floor space. Also cables from computers cannot exceed 15ft.

· There needs to be a minimum hallway space of 4ft.

1.3.4. Infrastructure Requirements

As a minimum, electrical outlets will be provided down the center of the trailer to provide power to the three computer racks and 18 monitors. Additional electrical outlets are desired along the outer perimeter (either walls or floor) as the design permits. The trailer will have overhead lighting and power switches. The total power requirement for the simulator systems excluding HVAC and lights is estimated to be 42 amps. The trailer will also provide for a HVAC unit capable of cooling a 1000 square foot area with computers and monitors powered up. The trailer will provide for AC electrical hookup and generator system.

1.4. Operations/Maintenance/Transportation

The mobile trailer will be required to visit Active Army IBCTs to provide CST Training. A notional schedule of the sites to be visited is Ft. Riley, KS; Ft. Drum, NY; Ft. Polk, LA; Ft. Bragg, NC; Ft. Campbell, KY. We are assuming each location will be visited two times per year and returned to Redstone Arsenal, AL upon completion of training. That will be a total of 10 round trips per year. Transportation will need to be provided to get the trailer to the sites mentioned above. Trailer operations and setup should also be provided for the first two events. This should provide adequate training for the crew that will be operating the system thereafter.

1.5. Government Furnished Equipment (GFE)

All equipment related to the ITAS BST will be provided by the Government:

· Launch Tube

· Traversing Unit (TU)

· Floor Mounts for TU

· Base Mounts

· Pedestal

· STAS

· All cables for ITAS BST

· World View STAS Mount

· 2 – 21” Dell Monitors
