RFI34: Re: Wall construction @ Elevator machine room: It appears that the door, frame and part of the wall will need to be removed to accommodate the removal of the existing service elevator machines and the installation of the new ones. What is the construction of the wall and will a sketch be provided as to what is to be put back?
Response34: "This will be ""Means and Methods"" by the contractor. If it is determined that the removing door, frame and part of the wall is the best means and methods of the construction, architect will issue a bulletin and give proper instruction to remove and reinstall these items. The walls are mostly steel studs and sheet rock construction.
RFI35:Re: Shaft Vent Closure: Please clarify that we are only closing the existing shaft vents in the 17th floor elevator room – total of 8 and the Service elevator room – total of 2.
Response35:Include Penthouse 1 Mezz, Total of 16 plus 2 Service.
RFI36:Re: Roofing Information:Detail 2/A-105 asks the contractor to cut new openings and to patch existing openings in the existing roof structure. What is the roof structure? Will there be a sketch to indicate how this is to be done? The same detail calls for the contractor to remove pavers and roofing and to patch the roofing and replace the pavers after the installation of the new HVAC unit. What is the roofing material? Is it covered by a warranty? If so who is the roofing contractor of record who furnished the roof bond?
Response36:Roof is made of metal deck spanning between steel beams, concrete slab, roof membrane, rigid insulation, filter fabric and roof paver on top. There will be no sketches issued at this time.
However, the prefabricated A/C unit curb shall be plenum type and thus the opening size to be flexible.
The curb should set on the existing beam grids. If any unforeseen difficulties arise and modification is required at the time of construction, a bulletin will be issued to clarify. Please include all estimated roof repair items in your bid. The roof is no longer under warranty.
RFI37:There is quite a challenge with the unknowns around the false floor on 17. In looking at the type of Imperial machines needed for the low rise/mid rise part of the project, and the size of those machines, even after planning on breaking them down, the weight of the heaviest piece, adding in some weight for material handling equipment, will be approximately 4000 lbs. Can the building engineer comment on the viability of moving that material down the 17th floor hallway and the type of floor protection he would recommend in order to distribute the weight?
Also, For the two service elevators, even after breaking the necessary Imperial machine down, the heaviest piece will weigh approximately 5000 lbs. Does the building engineer see any issue moving that piece on the top floor to underneath the trap door?"
Resp
Response37:This would be "Means and Methods" by the contractor. It may be a challenge but requires careful planning. On 17th floor, proper skids are required over the raised floor to distribute the load.
Freight elevators can take up to 8,000 lbs. but may require distributing the load evenly on the cabs.
RFI38:RE:Wet Sprinklers: SP-102 Shows the 17th. Floor sprinkler piping with x’s on it indicating that it is to be removed with the heads. SP-201 17th. Floor note says “All existing piping to remain”. Please clarify.
Response38:Typo: Please delete Note, “All existing piping to remain” on SP201.00. All existing sprinkler piping to be removed, unless noted otherwise.
RFI39:RE: Elevator Venting:VT-101 hoistway section calls for “provide 3’0” sq. ft. of venting ducted to the outside per elevator.” What size duct and how is it routed to the outside? Will a sketch be provided?
Response39:Typo, all existing venting openings to be closed and sealed.
RFI40:Is the elevator flooring being replaced?
Response40:No, not in scope.
RFI41:Drawing VF-101.00 calls for hoistway venting to be installed from the shaft to the outside. Please indicate how this will be achieved? There is no mention of Hoistway venting as a requirement in the ASME Elevator code.
Response41:Typo, all existing venting openings to be closed and sealed.
RFI42:Please provide the location / runs of each of the existing wiring from the communications rooms to the Machine rooms. Will the conduit be replaced or reuse the existing? Is there enough room in each of the conduits to re-use, if that is the requirement?
Response42:A101 shows Comm Room. Use elevator shaft, run new conduit and wire. Note: Existing system need to be active and transit to new.
RFI43:Drawings indicate that new hoist beams are to be installed. Please confirm.
Response43:Typo, existing hoist beams to remain and be used.
RFI44:Who is the incumbent Security contractor that works with the card readers?
