Q1. The crack locations call for a dutchman repair. The 3.4 section in the specifications only refers to spalls. Can the architect address the type of repair for a crack situation separately.
A1. The cracks in the stone units are to be treated in the same manner as spalls per section 3.4 of specification 04911 Unit Masonry Restoration in the project manual.
Q2. There is not sufficient information on the plans to quantify the 100% repointing and caulking on the backside of the parapet can there be a LF number provided and/or more detail.
A2. Specification 011000 Summary for base bid and options makes reference to joints to be treated on “interiors of parapets”. Similar notation appears on the drawings. In reference to those areas referenced in the question above, the following additional information is provided: At the 17th floor above counterflashing offers should be based on 3 courses of stone, total of 42” in height. At the 22nd floor above counterflashing offers should be based on one course of stone above counterflashing.
Q3.There is not sufficient information on the plans to quantify the repointing within the terracotta eagles.
A3. Proposals should carry repointing costs for 100% of the joints between or adjacent to the terra cotta panels.
Q4.Can the govt confirm whether the sidewalks have any utilities or hidden vaults below them?
A4. Yes, Devonshire St sidewalk is hollow all the way from Water to Milk street there is a Violia high pressure steam line under there. Also Milk and Water streets have sections of the sidewalk where the old coal drops are located.
Q5. Can the govt clarify the sealant scope as referenced in sections 011000 and 79200.
A5. Per typical detail D04 on sheet TL12, joints are to be cut back 1- 1/2", repointed 3/4", and backer rod and sealant installed.
