About this file

This document is a draft of a Special Notice for a Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) hosted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center's Commercial Low-Earth Orbit Development Program (CLDP). The purpose of the TIM is to discuss NASA's draft concepts on utilization operational context and requirements for Commercial Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Destinations (CLDs) that could support NASA astronauts and other spaceflight participants in LEO on a commercially owned and operated space system.

The two-day TIM on June 11-12, 2024 will cover NASA's utilization operational context, basic laboratory requirements, payload interoperability, and a notional payload lifecycle. CLD-Providers and Implementation Partners (IPs) are invited to provide 5-minute lightning talks to introduce their capabilities. One-on-one feedback sessions with NASA CLDP team members may also be requested. Attendance is limited, and pre-registration is required by June 7, 2024. NASA intends to record the event and post it online after the meeting.

Human Research “Early Integration”

Experiment Feasibility Assessment, Definition, IRB approval

• Amount of time depends on study complexity

• This must be done prior to being included in an

ICB.

• PI obtains IRB approval

Pre‐ICB Work: Working Group of all Payload Developers (PDs) requesting Human Research

• All PDs discuss planned research and possible conflicts for upcoming mission

• Potential combinations of experiments (complement scenarios) are developed that do not conflict or exceed resources such as post‐flight duty day and blood volume limits

Initial ICB (At L‐12 to 13 months)

• Crew receives ICB on all human research experiments planned for the increment

• Crewmembers provide interest surveys

Approval of Individual Crew Complements (At L‐12 to 11 months)

• Takes into account both crew interests and priorities

Text highlighted in teal denotes NASA safety engagement

IRB = Institutional Review Board ICB = Informed Consent Briefing

Example additional “Early Integration” considerations for any spacefaring human participating in a human research investigation
