About this file
Summary
This document package contains a Job Specification and associated Test Procedure for repair work on the USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD-18) flight deck safety net frame, with an Anticipated Award Date of 09/13/2026 and Production Completion Date of 12/11/2026. The work is being performed at SASEBO, with a Period of Performance from 10/22/2026 to 01/30/2027. The primary task involves repairing a bullet hole in AFT safety net #16 (Test Net ID: A6) located at Flight Deck Frame 203 through plug welding the existing hole and grinding the buildup area flush, followed by installation of new 3/16-inch diameter CRES 316 wire rope and swaging sleeves, and completion of a load test. Government-furnished materials include 10 swaging sleeves and 100 feet of wire rope (CRES 316, 7x19 construction with 2,900 lbs breaking strength).
The Test Procedure (TP File No. 61221-2-100_26245) establishes comprehensive requirements for certifying the structural integrity of the repaired safety net frame through a static load test of 1,000 to 1,050 pounds applied for 10 minutes to the net assembly in its horizontal position. Pre-test inspection requirements include detailed acceptance criteria for pendant turnbuckles, wire rope, quick-release hooks, frame pads, attachment hardware, CRES pipe/tubing, lashing rope, wire rope netting, grid spacing (89±10 mm), net clips, latch mechanisms, holdback staples, ground straps, and frame alignment. The test acceptance criteria require no visible damage, permanent deformation, wire rope strand breakage, weld cracks, or evidence of failure following load application. Test completion requires signatures from the LWC (Lead Work Center) and S246 (Test Code) upon satisfactory completion of all inspection and load test requirements.
