TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS:
Item #1 400/500-lb. Gas-Heated Drying Production Dryer:
1. Para. #1 (p.1) indicates dryer shall be “a drying and conditioning tumbler, laundry, commercial, etc.”
Q1 – Is the VA insulation sound reduction specification required for this commercial production dryer?
Answer – Yes. The VA insulation sound reduction specification is required for this commercial production dryer
2. Para. #16 (p.2) requires the new dryer fire suppression system shall be connected to a dedicated domestic water supply pipe and backflow preventer. The trade-in dryer suppression system is connected upstream to an existing ¾” backflow device with indirect drain and manual shut-off valve installed in a domestic cold water header. The backflow device also serves the existing 200-lb gas dryer and two (2) 100-lb. gas tumblers all having minimum GPM ratings for fire suppression that alone may or may not exceed the design flow rate of the existing backflow device.
Q1 – Confirm if the successful bidder is required to demolish the existing ¾” domestic cold water supply branch pipe serving the trade-in dryer back to above the 100-lb. tumblers and cap off; and in its place install a new separate dedicated domestic cold water supply and backflow preventer as specified properly sized to accommodate the new dryer fire suppression system.
Answer – Yes. The successful bidder is required to demolish the existing ¾” domestic cold water supply branch pipe serving the trade-in dryer back to above the 100-lb. tumblers and cap off. In its place install a new separate dedicated domestic cold water supply and backflow preventer as specified properly sized to accommodate the new dryer fire suppression system.
Q2 – Confirm the new fire suppression flow switch & signal control component(s) required are to match same component type & brands currently serving the 200-lb gas dryer, and is to be connected similarly to the building fire alarm system performed by a fire alarm contractor approved by the COR.
Answer – Yes. The new fire suppression flow switch & signal control component(s) required are to match same component type & brands currently serving the 200-lb gas dryer, and is to be connected similarly to the building fire alarm system performed by a fire alarm contractor approved by the COR.
3. Para. #11 (p.1) Dryer Supply & Exhaust Air Flow Design & Air Balancing – The existing model AA4-HVM air handling unit (tag AHU-1) serving the trade-in dryer has a manufacturer’s design rating of 10,000 CFM operating airflow @ stated static pressure curve ratings; and is set up for 9,211 SCFM air flow @ standard air conditions (existing trade-in dryer airflow design is rated for 10,000 CFM for optimum drying performance). There is a 36X18 Ruskin 506 damper installed in the 36X24 supply duct downstream AHU-1 ahead of the trade-in dryer in the fixed “open” position. AHU-1 start/stop operation is interlocked with the trade-in dryer control.
Q1 – Is the new dryer stop/start control required to be interlocked with AHU-1 reutilizing the existing conduits and wiring by the successful bidder; or will the VA perform this work to interlock the new dryer with AHU-1?
Answer – Yes. The new dryer stop/start control is required to be interlocked with AHU-1 reutilizing the existing conduits and wiring by the successful bidder
Q2 – Upon inspection of the existing supply air make-up duct to AHU-1 and the discharge supply air duct extending overhead into the clean area to the trade-in dryer, the physical condition of both ducts appeared to be in “good condition” for reuse with the new dryer once the lint build-up on the interior surfaces and intake air louver screen located on second floor is cleaned in accordance with the specifications. Does the VA have any specific concerns with or opposed to the successful bidder reusing the existing ducts and only modifying the duct in the clean area so as to connect to the new dryer inlet?
Answer – There are no specific concerns regarding this matter
Q3- Upon inspection of the existing dryer exhaust duct, the physical condition appears to be in “good condition” for reuse with the new dryer once the lint build-up on the interior surfaces and exterior exhaust stack screen are cleaned in accordance with the specifications. Does the VA have any specific concerns with the exhaust duct or opposed to the successful bidder reusing the existing duct and only modifying the duct in the clean area so as to connect to the new dryer exhaust outlet?
Answer – There are no specific concerns regarding this matter.
Q4 – Confirm requirement for providing new access doors means limited to where the existing supply & exhaust ducts are reworked to connect to the new dryer and not through the entire duct runs where existing access doors are installed.
Answer – Yes. Requirement for providing new access doors means limited to where the existing supply & exhaust ducts are reworked to connect to the new dryer and not through the entire duct runs where existing access doors are installed.
Q5 – Should the make-up supply air flow from AHU-1 require adjusting to accommodate the new dryer, is the successful bidder responsible for adjusting the air volume; or will the VA adjust the system?
Answer – Yes. The make-up supply air flow from AHU-1 require adjusting to accommodate the new dryer, is the successful bidders responsibility for adjusting the air volume.
Q6 – Is the successful bidder required to perform air testing & balancing and submit a report; or will the VA perform this work?
Answer – Yes. The successful bidder is required to perform air testing & balancing and submit a report
3. Para. #32 (p.2) Specification requires “all ductwork located outside the building to be weatherproofed and sealed water tight…”. The existing dryer exhaust duct rises up through the laundry ceiling, extending into a decorative steel stack before venting to the outdoors. The duct is not openly exposed inside the steel stack.
Q1 – Confirm the exhaust duct beyond the clean area is not to be sealed.
Answer – Yes. The exhaust duct beyond the clean area is not to be sealed.
