3. API Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) As an additional exchange, the Contractor shall securely exchange all required clinical data between Contractor’s systems and the VA Patient Generated Data (PGD) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Server (based on HAPI FHIR). Mapping and transmission of data will adhere to the FHIR DSTU2 specification (http://hl7.org/fhir/DSTU2/overview.html) including identification of suspect records. Transmission of data will occur at the same frequency as the established primary transmission for all identified vital signs. The Contractor(s) shall present data element mapping and clinical terminology context mapping to VA for validation prior to any work commencing on establishing the secondary transmission. Should standardized FHIR extensions be required, the VA will relay appropriate method for mapping any extensions necessary. Likewise, should clinical terminology context mapping require extension, the VA will relay appropriate extended clinical terminology codes to be utilized. As part of continuous improvement, additional features and improvements to the FHIR specification are to be expected. Once the VA has determined the VA PGD FHIR Server will be modified to implement these changes, the Contractor(s) will be notified of the effort. The Contractor(s) shall develop a plan for change implementation and implement these changes within 180 days of any signed contract modification. Additional changes/improvements will be made as determined/approved by the VA HT Contracting Officer’s Representative.
