Salient characteristics Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometer
Justification for acquisition of the Perkin Elmer for the PinAAcle 500.
Overview:
The Perkin-Elmer PinAAcle 500 is a 4-lamp position flame model is very similar to the 15-year-old Perkin-Elmer AAS that is currently used by the PI and his team. The new Perkin-Elmer PinAAcle 500 instrument is built to deliver an unparalleled level of performance at an affordable price and offers superior durability, longer life, and lower maintenance costs. Basically, it is a workhorse that offers flexibility, reliability, at a very affordable price.
Logistics and Details:
· Robust and affordable Flame AA with solid-state detection system
· Corrosion-resistant design
· Conformal-coated circuit boards to extend instrument life
· Compact footprint 26”wide x 25” high
· Intuitive color touchscreen with interchangeable mount
· Syngistix Touch Software to save and share methods and results
· Spectrometer Type – Atomic Absorption
· Peltier Detector – Standard
· Compatible with 21 CFR Part 11
· Excellent signal-to-noise ratio
· Low Maintenance cost
· Precision of less than0.3%
· Fully contained, maintenance-fee fiber optic technology
· Accurately measures the most difficult elements
· Upgradable on-board computer
· We recently upgraded the ventilation system in our laboratory in the DRCII building housing the device. This required extensive modification of the ventilation system designated for the AAS. The physical footprint of the PinAAcle is essentially identical to our current instrument so no further adjustments and cost would be required.
· The lamps that we already have (to measure zinc, cadmium, and manganese) are compatible with the new instrument so we would not need to purchase new lamps, which would not be possible if purchased through another vendor.
· Less maintenance will be required compared to our current instrument because the sample induction module can be removed compared to the old AAS that requires removal of 4 individual sections which is much more a complicated and time consuming.
· While many aspects of the new 500 are different, the software, operation and maintenance are similar to our outdated instrument thus allowing a smoother transition with very little training required.
