1. What is the structure of the clinic and how is it supported?
At this time, we have two Nurse Practitioners clinics, 2 Fellows clinics, and 1 VA Staff/provider clinic. These providers are supported by two Nurse Case MGRs, 1 LPN and 2 Schedulers. We also have a Chemo suite staffed with RNs.
2. What are your top cancer diagnosis seen?
Our top CA Diagnoses are Lung, CLL, Prostate and Colon cancers.
3. How many patients per day?
The providers staff between 9‐11 patients per day. Patients are mostly seen in their appt by
Fellows and NP/PA.
4. How many new diagnosed patients would be seen?
The clinic sees on average about 30 new patients a month. (Note new to the clinic does not necessarily mean new diagnosis)
5. What does a normal shift look like?
Patients are scheduled every 30 mins from 9 am to 2:30 pm; work shift seeing patients as a provider and supervising Fellows.
6. Do the Fellows cover the majority of the clinic or how does that role impact the practice? How do the fellows rotate through coverage?
Yes, it is mostly staffing Fellows. The University of Iowa manages the Fellows’ schedules/ rotation.
7. How many other providers working alongside?
There is usually one other provider staffing clinic.
8. What FTE will be required for physicians? Coverage Monday – Friday but how many doctors?
We are looking for 1.35 FTE staffed by a minimum of two contractor Key Personnel.
9. Would any nurse practitioner FTE be able to cover some of the need?
No, this would be a different contract and at the VA, mid‐levels do not staff Fellows
10. Is call required?
Yes (see item 3.1.2 of Section B.3 of the solicitation)
36C26323Q0289 A0001
11. What is the timeline to start coverage?
May 1 is an estimated date for the start of the period of performance. Candidates should be identified in proposal, we intend to award as quickly as we can, and credentialing may be expected to take 4 to 8 weeks
12. As we recruit for a physician, can we use a locum to cover or could the new patients be seen in our cancer care center?
No, providers working on contract will need to be vetted by the VA to work on VA contract. The
VA will not pay for providers that are not vetted by the VA , and the providers must be listed on the contract.
