SPECIFICATION
SECTION:
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR INFORMATION BEING REQUESTED
Please be specific as possible:
1. Does the Prime have to hold the mentioned license(s) or can the Prime’s subcontractor hold the licenses in lieu?
2. Is there a requirement to have a temporary fan operating during the replacement phase?
3. How long can the boilers operate with or without a fan?
4. Any hazardous materials to know about in or around the existing fans area?
5. We need to know the Amperage draw of the new three (3) HP fans?
- The existing wire size will need to be reviewed to see if it can handle the new Amperage.
- If wires are too small (example 14 AWG) and needs to be increased, then the conduit may need to be upsized to meet code for amount of wires being pulled through.
6. Will need three (3) new motor starters rated for three (3) HP.
- The existing motor starters may be rated for 2-5 HP (need to verify).
PROJECT MANAGER’S RESPONSE
1. The Prime is required to hold the state or territory business license. The subcontractor may hold the required specialty license(s) however, be reminded of Prime requirement to meet limitations on subcontracting mailto:cecil.nichols@va.gov applicable per RFQ (FAR 52.219-14) and required percentages to self-perform for a services acquisition.
2. Vendor can remove and install one (1) exhaust fan at a time once all equipment is available for turnkey installation.
3. During outside temperatures below 80 degrees, there’s no need to have exhaust fans on all the time. On cool day’s probably all day you can put fans inside plant to circulate air.
4. No hazardous materials known.
5. To my knowledge, the maximum operating amps per exhaust is 9-8.8 / 4.4.
- New wiring is required to support new exhaust fans.
- New wiring is required to support new exhaust fans. Conduit may be reused if it meets current code for condition and new wire size.
6. Three (3) new motor starters should be installed with new exhaust fans.
- Vendor verification of motor starters to support exhaust fans is essential.
