It is the intent of this guideline to bring the recommended manufacturers’ standards in line with existing practices and typically used cleaners. General characteristics of the Project furnishings Standards, Testing continued below.

This guideline offers standard test methodologies and specific performance recommendations to which manufacturers can test; and to which users may evaluate relative product performance. This guideline also provides product design considerations that support effective cleanability of healthcare furniture products.

The BIFMA Sustainability Guidelines have been developed to provide a roadmap for office furniture manufacturers and suppliers of all sizes beginning their journey to establish and/or expand their environmental management system (EMS), such as IS014001, to include sustainable business practices. The BIFMA Sustainability Guidelines focus on five key elements in an EMS to create a foundation for developing a sustainability roadmap, they include:

1. The Environmental Policy

1. Environmental Aspects

1. Legal and Other Requirements

1. Objectives and Targets

1. Management Review

The intention of these guidelines is for the elements described herein to be used by companies in the office furniture industry so that best practices may be shared, an increase in the implementation of sustainable practices may occur, and sustainability awareness may be elevated with industry partners, stakeholders and the communities in which they operate. While not ISO14001 requirements, the BIFMA Sustainability Guidelines are consistent with ISO 14001.

Flat square edge profile (standard on 1” thick, optional on 1-1/2” thick) Ribbed edge profile (standard on 1-1/2” thick, not available on 1” thick) Sizes must fit with correct ADAG clearances in the front of the desk and on the side to the wall in the office where it will be located.

Some desks have desk structural column based overhead cabinets with locking doored cabinets with magnetic attachment and touch on and office feature task lights underneath, and tackable screening panel against wall above work surface and laminate below.

Product must have Seismic Bolt plate kits for all units. Additionally, they must be installed with strapping when against the wall for seismic requirements.

Maximum Space Utilization: The Corner Release System encourages repositioning of shelves during initial assembly to reclaim wasted vertical space. In some cases, reclaimed vertical space will allow an extra shelving tier to be added to the storage unit resulting in a 25% increase in storage capacity!

Assembly: The unique Corner Release System enables quick and easy repositioning of shelves during the initial set up to accommodate different package or container sizes. “Total Assembly” is complete only after the shelves are properly spaced to maximize storage. SiteSelect Posts, with the double-groove visual guide feature, have circular grooves at 1" (25mm) increments and are numbered at 2" (51mm) intervals to easily identify proper shelf locations.

Adjustability: The unique shelf design and Posts should enable “tool-free”, quick adjustment at 1" (25mm) increments along the entire height of the post.

Rigidity: An enhanced Corner Release System has made adjusting the most rigid, easily adjustable shelving system Strong: Super Adjustable™ shelves hold as much weight as traditional Stationary units and hold a maximum of 2,000 lb. (910kg). Maximum weight capacity per shelf (48" [1219mm] or shorter = 800 lb. [364kg) Chrome-plated for dry storage and coatings for antimicrobial product protection Warranty Components and parts are to be free of defects in workmanship and materials for a period of five (5) years. The warranty period will commence no later than six (6) weeks after shipment or upon installation (whichever occurs first). Components covered under this standard warranty include shelves, back panels, end panels, side panels, drawers, doors, countertops, custom wood parts and assembly hardware. Only components furnished and installed by vendor onto the Product will be covered under this warranty.
