RFI Answers for Solicitation 36C25723B0005

Correct Site Safety Deficiencies, Project 519-19-100

1. The plans show that the proposed handrails require 2-1/2” diameter standard pipe (2.875” O.D. , 0.202” wall thickness) for the posts and 1-1/2” diameter standard pipe (1.900” O.D.) for the rails. This means that the I.D. of the post will be 0.773” larger than the O.D. of the rail. There is however no detail in the plans for a specific way to crimp or trim the posts to match the I.D. of the posts to the O.D. of the rail. Is there a certain way the posts need to be trimmed?

Answer: Pipe sizes are differentiated by approximately 3/4 “ from post to rail to accommodate a 3/8 weld on either side of the handrail joint to post.

2. The plans require “type A powder coated handrail”. The powder coating process will need to be completed in a suitable indoor environment where a heat-treating process can be performed in order to create the proper bond, finish, and hardening of the powder coating. However, installation of the handrails will require field welds which cannot be powder coated on the jobsite. Is there a required or suggested process to coat the field welds?

Answer: Handrail field welds can be coated with a suitable color matching paint but field welds should be kept to an absolute minimum.

3. The plans specify “type A powder coated handrail” on some sheets, and simply “handrail” or “type A handrail” on others. Are all of the handrail sections to be powder coated alike?

Answer: Type A powder coat is required for all handrails in the plan.

4. The bid alternatives are not shown on the bid sheet. The existing bid form shows a lump sum for the entire project. How are we to bid the project – lump sum or with alternatives? Please clarify.

Answer: The bid is lump sum.
