About this file
This document contains answers to additional questions regarding the federal contract opportunity for the Amarillo VA Medical Center to replace and repair campus floors. Key details include:
-
The scope of work involves replacing and repairing floors across the Amarillo VA Medical Center campus, but does not include any terrazzo flooring removal. The VA will move existing medical equipment and furniture to allow for the work.
-
The contractor will be responsible for developing a schedule and phasing plan, which must be approved by the VA. Work may need to be performed on evenings and weekends to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
-
The contractor will have access to freight elevators for transporting construction debris and materials. Bagging and transporting debris in covered carts will generally be required, depending on the location and asbestos requirements.
-
Clarification is provided regarding flooring types and locations to be installed. The contractor should only bid on the scope shown in the contract drawings and documents. Requests for additional time or scope will be considered separately.

1. Is there Terrazzo in any of the halls, especially the carpeted area?
Currently, no terrazzo flooring is anticipated to be removed in this project.
2. Will the VA be moving out all the fixtures and furniture, or do we? If so, where are we to store it? Including the
ICU??
The Amarillo VA will move the medical equipment and furniture.
3. How are we to do the HOT corridors? We will have to prep the concrete, is there a 220 plug? or will we have to pigtail it?
If “HOT corridors” refers to corridors with asbestos, then it might be best to block the entire corridor or what is called out in the ICRA, during the abatement process. Corridors may be allowed to be divided once the abatement is completed. The contractor will be allowed to use the electrical power they are requesting.
However, the contractor must verify and use available power from an existing panel. The contractor will be responsible for hooking up and running the conduit and wire to the area for their temporary use. When finished, the contractor will be responsible for removing said conduit and wiring and returning the panel back to the way it was found.
4. Will we be allowed to work weekends or evenings, due to patients coming and going?
Normal working hours for the hospital is 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday. However, certain areas in this project will require the contractor to work evenings and weekends to allow the normal activity of the hospital to function.
5. How are we to bring in and take stuff out?? Freight elevators or chutes? Or bag and tote?
The contractor will have access to the freight elevator. This will depend on the ICRA, however for bidding purposes, construction debris will need to be bagged and hauled off in covered carts.
6. What is the length of time we will be working in certain areas Like the ICU?
The contractor will be responsible for developing the schedule for this project and approved by the VA.
7. We noticed that there were several areas in building 33 that are connected to the hallway we will be working on, but they are not on the drawings or scope, 1400, 1428, 1446, 1444. Should we include them?
At this time, the contractor will only bid on what is shown on the drawing and/or scope.
8. 180 calendar days is not enough time. Need at least 300 calendar days.
Currently, the VA feels that the project can be completed in 180 days. If the contractor should run into unforeseen delays and/or need more time to complete the project, then the VA will entertain a time extension at that time.
9. Phasing schedule. Can they provide.
The phasing will be scheduled by the contractor and approved by the VA.
10. Requirements for negative air in corridors and lobby?
This will depend on the area, and the ICRA whether air scrubbers can be used in areas where the negative can’t be exhausted out.
11. Note C-On all pages.-Refers to demo of existing ceramic tile and base-Calls for new ceramic tile floor-Cannot find anywhere on drawings-New
The ceramic floors in the female and male locker rooms in the Surgical Admin space (Bid Alt. 6)
12. Sheet B28-Note on left side of drawing -5 Rooms with arrow show to be replaced with Sheet Vinyl-Welded Seams- Other areas with same dash to be VC Tile?-
Please clarify. Just the 5 Rooms that the arrows are pointing at will receive sheet vinyl with welded seams. The rest of the areas with the same dash to be LVT flooring.
