About this file

This is a Statement of Work for the procurement of Scanlan® micro neurosurgery instruments by the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Texas.

The procurement aims to replace aging GEM Synovis microsurgery instrument sets that have been in use for 15 years and increase instrument capacity to support brain tumor resections and complex spine procedures requiring micro-anatomy dissection. The required items include nine distinct instrument types with specified part numbers and quantities: Gerald Forceps (6 units), Micro Forceps (3 units), Tumor Grasping Forceps (3 units), V.I.P. Metal Sterilization Trays (3 units), Endoscopic Chitwood Knot Tier/Pushers (3 units), Micro Scissors in straight and curved configurations (3 units each), and Micro Needle Holders (3 units). All instruments and sterilization trays must be new, not refurbished, and delivered in manufacturer's original packaging. Delivery is required to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center located at 2002 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, TX 77030.

Supply specifications require that all instruments be compatible with and match the existing Scanlan® sets currently in use to preserve standardized surgical technique and surgeon familiarity. Design characteristics including micro tip dimensions, bayonet-style configurations, and handle geometry must be equivalent to current instruments. All items must meet VA sterilization standards and be suitable for routine reprocessing in the facility's central sterile processing environment. Warranty and support terms are specified as standard.

STATEMENT OF WORK

GEM Synovis Instruments

Background: The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) currently owns several GEM Synovis Microsurgery Instrument Sets. These instruments are essential for micro dissection during both brain and spine procedures and are designed and used primarily for the surgical treatment of brain tumors. The ENT Service requires an increase in the par level of these sets due to the need for precision handling during delicate operations. The current instruments, which are exclusively manufactured by GEM Synovis, have been in use for 15 years and are now in need of replacement to ensure optimal performance. It is necessary that the new instruments match the sets already owned at MEDVAMC.

Project Scope: The purpose of this procurement is to replace aging Scanlan® micro neurosurgery instruments and increase instrument capacity to support brain tumor resections and complex spine procedures requiring micro‑anatomy dissection. This includes the purchase and delivery of the specific items listed below, which are required to assemble complete and functionally standardized microsurgery sets.
