· Restore and maintain operational sling par levels required for continuous clinical operations.

II. Background:

VHA Directive 1611 and the Occupational Safety and Health Act General Duty Clause (29 U.S.C. §654(a)(1)) establish the requirement for healthcare facilities to implement comprehensive SPHM programs that reduce manual patient handling and associated injury risk.

The MEDVAMC SPHM program consists of integrated policies, procedures, and systems designed to protect both patients and caregivers through the use of mechanical lifting technology. These requirements apply to all clinical areas where patients require assistance with lifting, transferring, or mobility.

The Guldmann Basic High Sling supports SPHM program objectives by enabling safe vertical lifting and full-body transfers of patients who have limited or no control over head and trunk movement. The sling is designed for use with ceiling-lift systems to safely transfer patients between beds, wheelchairs, and other care surfaces while eliminating the need for manual lifting by caregivers.
