The contract (Award Number 36C25626D0035, Solicitation Number 36C25626Q0289) was awarded to Cepheid on February 26, 2026, with a total value of $4,500,000.00. The contract covers five annual ordering periods from March 1, 2026, through February 28, 2031, and includes line items 0001–0002 through 4001–4002. Cepheid, located at 904 East Caribbean Drive, Sunnyvale, CA 94089 (UEI: W6HQTMWB9Q28), is the sole awardee.
The contract provides continued lease, supplies, reagents, consumables, and OEM-authorized support for the GeneXpert Infinity 80–80 Molecular Diagnostic System operated by the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas. The procurement supports high-throughput molecular diagnostic PCR testing essential to clinical operations. The award was made on a sole-source basis following a Special Notice posted from September 26, 2025, to October 15, 2025, after market research confirmed that Cepheid is the only responsible source capable of providing the required proprietary GeneXpert Infinity 80–80 platform, reagents, supplies, and consumables. Although one response was received from another vendor, that respondent could not provide the required proprietary materials. The contracting officer is Shasta Britt (shasta.britt@va.gov). This notice was published under FAR 5.301 to provide public visibility for the non-competitive award.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Network Contracting Office (NCO) 16, has awarded
Indefinite‑Delivery Contract 36C25626D0035 to Cepheid for the continued lease, supplies, reagents, consumables, and OEM‑authorized support necessary for operation of the GeneXpert
Infinity 80‑80 Molecular Diagnostic System used by the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center
(MEDVAMC), Houston, Texas. The contract includes Line Items 0001–0002 through 4001–4002 and provides five annual ordering periods, supporting high‑throughput molecular diagnostic testing essential to daily clinical operations.
This action was awarded on a sole‑source basis after a Special Notice / Notice of Intent to Sole
Source (36C25626Q0023) was posted from September 26, 2025, to October 15, 2025, with an archive date of October 16, 2025. Market research confirmed that Cepheid is the only responsible source capable of providing the GeneXpert Infinity 80‑80 platform and its required proprietary reagents, supplies, consumables, and OEM‑authorized support. One response was received; however, the respondent could not provide the required proprietary reagents and consumables needed to meet mission‑critical laboratory functions. Therefore, Cepheid remained the only responsible source capable of fully meeting VA laboratory needs.
This procurement supports MEDVAMC’s ongoing molecular diagnostics operations, enabling continuous, automated, high‑volume PCR testing with regulatory compliance, standardized workflows, and uninterrupted patient‑care services. The award ensures continuity of operations with an integrated diagnostic platform currently in use and validated within the facility.
