Background
This statement of work is for the purchase of training for Clinical Documentation Improvement (hereby referred to as CDI) for Kansas City VAMC Hospital and CBOC facilities within Kansas and Missouri. Kansas City VAMC HIMS Department is proposing the purchase of an online and face-to face comprehensive CDI training curriculum for CDI Specialists and.
The KCVA is seeking training for one year through online comprehensive and face to face CDI Provider, CDI Specialist and Nursing Informatics training curriculum.
4. Scope
Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) is a process where the health record is manually reviewed either concurrently or retrospectively for ambiguous, conflicting, incomplete, or nonspecific provider documentation. A Clinical Documentation Improvement Program requires specialized training to review health records for completeness and appropriate documentation.
Training should include the ongoing access for a period of one year. This will be required to allow staff the ability to take the online CDI training curriculum on their own time and whenever new staff are hired at the facilities.
With the purchase of the CDI training curriculum, the attendee (CDI Coder Specialists & Nursing Informatics) should be able to:
• Understand and apply the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting from a CDI perspective
• Identify diagnoses frequently in need of documentation clarification to support accurate code assignment
• Understand best practices associated with VHA, CMS and TJC compliant query process’s
• Learn and understand tips for working, communicating and educating Providers to improve clinical documentation
• How to recognize the important clinical indicators for diagnoses across major body systems
• Understand MS-DRG assignment is calculated and the impact of diagnosis assignment
• Understand how correct code assignment impacts reimbursement
• Assessment of documentation workflow practices

• Contractor work will be evaluated upon completion by the KCVA HIMS Management staff, along with assigned COR to ensure contract requirements are completed.

• CDI Pocket Guide (inpatient or outpatient) – The latest edition of the CDI pocket Guide will be provided to all specialists and physician leaders. This resource is the most recognized item for CDI staff and is a standard resource across all health systems. (30 Copies)
• Corporate ACDIS Memberships: Access to www.acdis.org for selected CDI and HIM staff
• Coding Clinic review calls: Conducted four times per year with your CDI education specialist, these calls discuss relevant changes and updates from Coding Clinic and are targeted to your organizational focus
• IPPS analysis: Detailed review of the IPPS Final Rule and how changes may affect your patient population and documentation needs
• CDI education webinars: Quarterly calls that provide custom CDI focused education on topics identified in collaboration with your organization, ranging from compliance reviews to denial prevention

The modules also highlight what information must be present in the documentation for appropriate code assignment.
c) JustCoding’s Essential Skills for CPT Coding - The 12 courses in JustCoding’s Essential Skills for CPT Coding provide a basic overview of how CPT codes are arranged and how to apply them according to the CPT® Manual. The courses review specific coding guidelines and how to report specific challenging procedures. Students also receive an overview of HCPCS Level II coding.
d) JustCoding’s Essential Skills for Anatomy and Physiology - The 16 in-depth courses in JustCoding’s Essential Skills for Anatomy and Physiology provide an overview of important anatomical details and disease processes crucial for training coders and HIM staff.
