About this file

This document is an amendment to solicitation 36C25225Q0018 for solid waste collection and removal services at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison, WI. The amendment provides answers to five vendor questions related to the transport and collection of recyclable materials such as mixed paper, wooden pallets, corrugated cardboard, and shrink wrap. It confirms that mixed paper is transported in hard plastic containers, 15-20 wooden pallets are picked up weekly, 3-4 bales of corrugated cardboard are collected per week weighing approximately 600 lbs. per bale, and shrink wrap is transported in bales but can be disposed of as trash if not economically recyclable. The amendment also clarifies that Styrofoam is recyclable and should be collected separately. The solicitation due date has not been extended.

William S Middleton VA Hospital Questions with Answers

Question 1: Is mixed paperboard transported in bales? If not, what form is it in during transport? Mixed paper is loose and in hard plastic containers. Containers are taken as is and returned empty upon next visit.

Question 2: How many wooden pallets are picket up in a month? Currently, 15-20 pallets are picked up weekly.

Question 3: How many bales of OCC (Old Corrugated Cardboard) are collected in each pickup? 3-4 bales per week. The estimated weight is 600 lbs. per bale.

Question 4: Is compressed shrink wrap transported in bales, or in another form? Shrink wrap is in bales but if it’s not economically recyclable then treating it as trash is acceptable.

Question 5: Since Styrofoam and shrink wrap probably can't be recycled, is it okay to throw them away as trash? The Styrofoam can be recycled and should be recycled as it’s clean Styrofoam. Previously, the VA handled Styrofoam removal and loaded it and delivered to Reynolds Urethane Recycling located in Madison.
