SOLICITATION 36C25221B0015

AMENDMENT A0004

July 16, 2021

Project: Upgrade Exterior Signage & Wayfinding Project Number: 676-18-103 Location: Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah, WI

Amendment 0004 hereby incorporates the following clarifications/change(s) into the solicitation package.

Solicitation RFI’s/Questions and Answers

A. Question 1: The plot plan lists sign numbers, but it does not list sign types. Is there a list that matches sign numbers with sign types, so we know how many of each sign type is needed?

Response: Drawing Sheets AS 107 through AS115 show a detail of each sign type. Specification 10 14 00, in Volume 1 of the Specifications provides a table of notes including sign number on drawing, sign type, text on each line of the sign, and other notes. Use this data to determine the number of signs of each type that is required.

Question 2: The sign summary says for all internally illuminated signs, the LEDs should be dimmable. A LED digital message center is dimmable but standard white LEDs are not normally dimmed. Did you want some type of LED dimmer added to the inside of each lighted sign cabinet?

Response: No. Only the message center shall be dimmable.

Question 3: The sign summary says for all internally illuminated signs you want the lighting control on a timer. Since power is probably coming from all different locations to these signs will each sign have its’ own lighting control? Do you want a timer or photocell on each sign, or will the electrician use a photocell and relay to turn on/off all signs at the same time throughout the entire complex?

Response: Illuminated monument signs shall be controlled by photocell. See Drawing Sheet AS 401, Note 2. This should be typical for all monument signs (Sign Type i5)

Question 4: Avery vinyl is specified for the sign lettering. Is 3M vinyl an acceptable alternative if we can do a close color match?

Response: Avery vinyl should be used as a basis of design. Other manufacturers are acceptable provided they meet the salient characteristics and material properties as defined in the drawings and specifications. That is, if the material properties meet or exceed those properties of the Avery Vinyl product and the style and color are comparable, then yes, a different product may be used. The product used should be identified in the contractors bid by Manufacturer, Model #, as an alternative product. Manufacturer’s specification sheet should be provided to assist the VA in evaluating suitability.
