About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers amendment for Solicitation 36C25025Q0858, a Regulated Medical Waste Management Services contract for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Northern Indiana (Fort Wayne and Marion facilities). The solicitation is an unrestricted, Indefinite Quantity Indefinite Delivery (IDIQ) contract for medical waste removal and disposal services, with an estimated monthly waste volume of approximately 500 pounds (165 pounds sharps, 40 pounds trace chemotherapy, 295 pounds standard red bag waste). Pricing will be per pound for most Contract Line Items (CLINs), with some CLINs priced per container, and contractors must use containers not exceeding 50 pounds when filled.
Key operational details include that VA staff will handle internal waste collection and staging, while the contractor will be responsible for loading, container swapping, and manifest completion. The waste types include sharps, trace chemotherapy, and standard red bag waste, which can be processed via autoclave or incineration. The current contract (36C25024D0134) is being performed by an unspecified incumbent, and the new solicitation requires contractors to supply rigid, reusable transport containers and medical waste cardboard boxes, while VA will provide disposable sharps containers. The solicitation indicates a contract effective date of 09-30-2025 with an amendment issued on 10-08-2025.

5) QUESTION: At the Fort Wayne and Marion facilities, can the Government provide an estimated breakdown of the Regulated Medical Waste by sharps, pathological waste requiring incineration, and standard red bag waste that may be autoclaved and landfilled?
ANSWER: The Government estimates approximately 165 pounds a month for sharps, approximately 40 pounds a month of trace chemotherapy requiring incineration, and approximately 295 pounds a month of standard red bag waste for the Fort Wayne facility. Data unknown for Marion facility. ANSWER: The contractor shall supply both the rigid, reusable transport containers and the medical waste cardboard boxes. The collection containers and sharps boxes are provided by the VA and not required by the contractor to supply.
