About this file
This document describes Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) categories for classifying long-term care residents. It outlines eight RUGs categories - Rehabilitation Plus Extensive Services, Rehabilitation, Extensive Services, Special Care High, Special Care Low, Clinically Complex, Behavioral Symptoms and Cognitive Performance, and Reduced Physical Function. For each category, it provides the criteria residents must meet to be classified under that group related to activities of daily living dependency scores, types of clinical care and medical conditions received, and therapeutic services. It notes that new veterans should be placed at the lowest two RUGs levels only for a short period and are more appropriately placed in assisted living or at home. The related federal contract opportunity is for long-term care services at the Ann Arbor Community Nursing Home under the Department of Veterans Affairs VISN 10.
