2. Contract Title.

EYESI Surgical Simulator

3. Background.

The Eyesi Surgical Simulator is a widely accepted valuable mode of surgical training for Ophthalmology residents, now acquired by 36 other VA medical centers with training programs. The core justifications are patient safety and accelerated surgical skill development. It has been shown to allow for less intraocular surgical complications, highly realistic training experience, unlimited independent practice time, a multi-tiered training curriculum, and objective powerful assessment/evaluation capability – all of which have been backed by clinical studies. Trainees are able to practice the steps of surgery repetitively to competency prior to attempting surgery on our veterans, to include simulation of surgical complications and remedies.
