A.2 Questions and Answers

Question # 1: Please confirm this is an annual volume as it seems very low compared to other VA Medical Centers. Does this include weight from sharp containers?

Answer: The weight does include the waste from sharp containers but the weight has been revised to the following and is included in each line item of the revised Price/Cost Schedule.

Base year: 21,000 lbs. for the year.

Option year 1: 22,000 lbs. for the year.

Option year 2: 23,000 lbs. for the year.

Option year 3: 24,000 lbs. for the year.

Option year 4: 25,000 lbs. for the year.

Question #2: Does the estimate for the weight for the Regulated Medical Waste and Sharps include the main facility and its CBOC’s?

Answer: Yes, the main facility and all clinics listed are included in the revised weight for Regulated Medical Waste and sharps.

Question #3: Solicitation states, “All sharps containers shall be of a vertical drop type and utilize existing Stericycle mounting brackets.” Does this mean all brackets currently in place will be left in place by current contractor?

Answer: This section is being revised to state, “All sharps containers shall be of a vertical drop type. Daniels brackets are currently in use. Stericycle or Daniels is preferred. Equivalent may be offered. Vendor must provide new brackets if non-Daniels brackets are used.”

Question #4: Are sharps containers disposable or reusable? Does the VA have a preference?

Answer: The sharps containers must be reusable (recyclable).

Question #5: Do any of the 8 gallon containers require a dolly?

Answer: Approximately 14 will require a floor mounted stand with foot activated flip top lid. Below is picture of Daniels model shown. Equivalent will be accepted.

Question #6: Will a site visit be offered if requested?

Answer: Note that this is for single location pickup at each site. No room to room sharps pickup. VA staff will move the sharps and bagged/boxed waste to a pick-up location at each site. State reason for site visit with the request. Site visit will only be able to be set up for main hospital location.

Question #7: Currently, the VA is utilizing a reusable trace chemo container. Is this a requirement or an appropriate container for the trace chemo as written ok?

Answer: It is not mandatory for the chemo containers to be reusable. Appropriate box or container may be used that meets requirements for the cytotoxic waste.
