* = Required Field Contract Opportunity Special Notice 5th Axis Upgrade to Existing DATRON M8 Cube System 15212-5319 36C24E20Q0258 N 333515 US Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Regional Procurement Office (RPO) East 323 North Shore Drive, Suite 500 Pittsburgh PA 15212-5319 Shannon Hukriede shannon.hukriede@va.gov The Department of Veterans Affairs, Minneapolis VA Health Care System intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, with DATRON Dynamics Inc. for a 5th Axis upgrade to their existing 4-Axis DATRON M8 Cube System. This upgrade is needed to support the Minneapolis VA Rehabilitation Engineering Research Program’s research on prosthetics. The addition of the 5th axis enables more complex internal geometries and undercuts not accessible on a 4-axis milling machine. The upgrade will require all DATRON component parts for the fifth drive axis for compatibility with the existing proprietary system and for data continuity. The upgrade also requires a certified field service technician from DATRON Dynamics to install the additional drive axis, including optimization and training on the new control functions. The use of only certified technicians is necessary to prevent voiding current warranties and ensuring interoperability with the current controller software and existing power/drive hardware in order to maintain continuity of operation of the milling machine and toolpath data. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, any responsible source who believes it is capable of meeting the requirement and who is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), authorized dealer, authorized distributor or authorized reseller of all the items listed above, may submit a capability statement to the contracting office no later than Friday, September 11th, 4:00, ET. Interest/capability statements may be sent to Shannon Hukriede at Shannon.Hukriede@va.gov. No telephone responses will be accepted. A determination not to compete the proposed requirement based upon the responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
