About this file
This is Amendment 0002 to Solicitation 36C24626Q0499 for air monitoring services related to asbestos removal at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). The amendment, issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Network Contracting Office 6 located in Hampton, Virginia, serves to address proposed questions from offerors and clarify project requirements. The solicitation pertains to asbestos abatement activities in three locations: rooms B1029 and B1031, and the Mezzanine area of the facility.
Key project details clarified in this amendment include: the Mezzanine work must be completed after cafeteria closure, preferably on Friday nights or Saturdays when the Radiation/Oncology department is not operating the Linear Accelerator, to prevent worker radiation exposure; rooms B1029 and B1031 may be abated during daytime, Friday nights, or Saturdays and can be scheduled consecutively with Mezzanine work; the Department of Veterans Affairs will clear all stored materials from the affected areas prior to work commencement; and air clearances will be performed using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis with either a 4-hour or 8-hour turnaround time. The Notice to Proceed (NTP) date will determine final scheduling, with coordination required between the contractor and the Radiation/Oncology department.

CONTINUATION PAGE
Q1: What time of day will the rooms (B1029, B1031, and the Mezzanine) be available for abatement?
A1: To eliminate adverse patient care; the Mezzanine will have to have the removal completed after the cafeteria is closed to access the Mezzanine. Preferably, this would be on a Friday night or a Saturday if Radiation/Oncology (RAD/ONC) and when RAD/ONC is not using the Linear Accelerator. The Linear Accelerator uses high-energy X-rays or electrons and must be off to eliminate worker radiation exposure.
Rooms B1029 and B1031 can be abated during the day, on a Friday night or on a Saturday with the Mezzanine, to complete the removal and clearances consecutively.
Once the date for NTP is identified, I (end user) will check with RAD/ONC to identify the date and times the Mezzanine work can be completed.
Q2: Who will clear the B1029, B1031, and the Mezzanine of stored materials currently in the areas?
A2: DVAHCS personnel will clear the areas of all stored materials prior to work proceeding.
Q3: What type of clearances will be performed?
A3: TEM with either a 4-houir or 8-hour TAT.
