CONTINUATION PAGE
1. Will the 1 FTE and 1 requested backup be solely responsible for 24/7 coverage of the urgent care facility?
The 1.0 FTEE will be scheduled for 12 hour shifts (10A-10P and 8A-8P) and scheduled to work a minimum of 80 hours every two weeks. The back-up physician will be expected to work the same when the 1.0 FTEE is unable to work (vacation, sick, etc.)
2. What is the current support staff consist of? The UCC functions with all Registered Nurse staff and one PSA (Patient Support Assistant) during regular business hours. This PSA assists with interfacility transfers, coordinating telephone calls and other duties as needed to assist the medical staff. A Medical Support Staff (MSA) is scheduled during regular business hours to register UCC patients. The AOD (Administrator on Duty), works off tours and assists UCC staff with interfacility transfers, phone calls etc.
3. Is there a rotation schedule for the weekend and holiday coverage? UCC Medical Director takes into account requests for time/weekends off and adjusts to meet the needs of the unit while trying to fairly sparse weekends and holidays. The UCC Medical Director keeps a list of which staff work the major holidays such as Christmas and July 4 and distributes these fairly, allowing any staff who prefer to work the ability to do so.
4. If we chose to submit a third candidate is there an option that they could be added to the schedule? The contract is requesting one full time physician 1.0 FTEE and a back-up full time physician to cover when the full time physician is unavailable.
5. Are the shift going to follow traditional Urgent care outlines of 3 or 4 shift a week or will it be a 7 shifts on and 7 shifts off type schedule? Providers have been working a typical 3-4 day work week.
6. Will VetPro candidates be given preference? All candidates will need to go through the credentialing and privileging process as well as the VetPro process when the physician is being onboarded as a VA contractor.
7. Does the service line intend to have providers work a 14hr shift or will they only be working a portion of the 14hrs indicated above? How many shifts per month? Will holidays be covered on a rotational basis with others providers at the facility?
Only work 8 or 12 hour tours. Providers work 0800-2000 on weekends. If patients are still in the unit at 2000, handoff occurs with Hospitalist.
VA Business Hours: VAMC is open 24/7, 365 days a year. The UCC hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. The Contractor Physician shall be on duty during weekdays, weekends, and Federal holidays.
8. Is this requirement for adult urgent care only? Yes
9. How many support staff are available (e.g., mid-levels and nurses)? One mid-level Nurse Practitioner works Monday through Friday 0900-1730. RN’s are scheduled in a typical pattern of increased staff during the busiest hours. Minimum of 2 RN’s at all times with 4 as the average during the busiest hours of 0930-4:30. Three RN’s on weekends.
10. How far in advance is the schedule made? Generally 1-2 months.
11. Is it going to be a set schedule? (i.e. 7 on/off or 3 shifts one week, 4 shifts the next?) No, flexes to accommodate staff requests for time off.
12. How many other providers will they be working with? (is there double coverage with Physicians? Is there any mid-level support?) See below sample schedule. NP works Monday through Friday 0900-1730. Minimum of 2 providers with a NP during the busiest times. Only one provider scheduled on weekends, due to fewer visits. (Sample schedule only names are not actual names of physicians)
13. What support services are available? Surgery, OB, ER??? On-site consultation with surgeon (only perform ambulatory procedures here), Hospitalists for admissions, lab and radiology. Ability to consult with Pittsburgh VA specialists such as cardiology, surgery and Behavioral Health. Patients that need the services of a consultant such as Pulmonary or Surgical or Cardiology are transferred to Pittsburgh if stable; unstable patients are sent locally to one of the civilian hospitals 5 minutes away.
14. How many other physicians are on staff? 1-2 Hospitalists 0700-1900 and one Hospitalist 1900-0700.
