STATEMENT OF WORK

UltiMaker Method XL 3D Printer Background

· The NJ War Related Illness and Injury Study Center’s Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits Center of Excellence plans to purchase a 3D printer. The Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits Center of Excellence (AHBPCE) at the NJ War Related Illness & Injury Study Center (WRIISC) requires a large 3D printer in order to create custom designs needed by the department for research and clinical projects, as well as prototyping different parts and devices to help increase the functionality and productivity of the lab. While we do have one printer already, this new printer is the only one on the market that is capable of printing with carbon fiber as well as water soluble support material. We also need this new printer in order to increase our efficiency. Many of our prints take multiple hours, thus we are always restrained by time and not able to test our prints in the same day. Many times they need to extremely precise and the smallest of changes can affect the outcome, being able to print two at a time can help us test multiple iterations on a more efficient timescale to ultimately help the lab more quickly. The Ultimaker Method XL 3D printer will help solve problems of efficiency as well as expand the current horizon of what can be made by offering different materials that are not currently available as well as support material that will allow our designs to be more intricate
