X The purpose of this amendment is to:

A. Incorporate the MFMA Guidelines into the specification.

B. Incorporate Questions and Answers dated March 5, 2019 C. All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.

Christina Katz Questions and Answers – Renovate Gym Floor B. 26 – 36C24219B0012 – March 5, 2019

The current system in the gym appears to be ¾” maple on ¾” 1x6 pine subbase which sits on “sleepers” which is placed and poured into place in a layer of “Cinder fill” or concrete grout which would be on top of the concrete slab.

1) If this is the current existing condition of the current gym floor, has the layer of cinder fill been tested for asbestos? This layer above the concrete slab typically contains asbestos, and requires asbestos abatement. If not, please advise if testing and asbestos abatement should be included in contractor pricing.

Multiple samples of the gymnasium floor underlayment paper and concrete subfloor waterproofing were tested for asbestos none was detected.

2) On drawing title “Gym floor installation detail” drawing 4 detail 1-IF-1, appears to show the new system going directly onto the existing concrete slab. Further- Drawing AD-001 “Gym Floor replacement Site Plan” Calls for “Demo Approx 8800 Sq Ft existing gymnasium sport tile, hardwood flooring & sub-base wood flooring and install new….”

a) If the existing system consists of the above mentioned scenario of the existing floor layers sitting on sleepers on a cinder or grout fill slab above the concrete slab; Is the contractor to include removing all layers down to the concrete slab?

1. All flooring is to be removed to the concrete slab. It is not known if there is existing cinder or grout fill slab above the concrete slab; unforeseen circumstances will be addressed as necessary.

b) If answer to question 2-a- is YES, has the thickness of the sleepers and cinder slab or other sub base been taken into account on the design for the new system? There is a possibility, we believe the design shown /“new” elevation “Gym floor installation detail” drawing 4 detail 1-IF-1 will match the elevation of the existing floor once all floor subbase layers have been removed.

Not Applicable

c) If answer to question 2-a- is YES, please provide thickness of all subbase layers including the sleepers and cinder fill slab. It is needed to provide a fully responsive bid. If answer is No to question 2-a, please provide thickness of all existing layers, and a more descriptive scope of existing layers.

NOT APPLICABLE

1.

3) Based on past experience with similar gym floor conditions, it is possible the pine subbase layer is perfectly usable. If so it would be a substantial cost saving to the VA to leave this layer down, and build up from this layer, while achieving the same quality end product. It is our recommendation to the VA to include an alternate price in the bid; If the pine subbase is usable with up to 10% needing repair, to build up a new system from this pine layer up.

1. The condition of the pine subbase layer may be in usable condition, however, the underlying existing vapor retarder does not meet the performance level of the required 6 mil vapor retarder, and the removal and reinstallation of the pine subbase may lose integrity.

1.

4) The specification calls for the manufacturer Robbins, will other manufacturers and floor systems be acceptable if they meet or exceed specification?

1.

1. Detail 1 on Detail Sheet has leaders that include “ROBBINS…OR SIMILAR”

5) A black membrane is below the floor which coats the concrete below. Has this been tested for asbestos?

Multiple samples of the gymnasium floor underlayment paper and concrete subfloor waterproofing were tested for asbestos none was detected.

6)Humidity is an obvious factor in current floor failure, how will this be mitigated in the new floor application?

Considering its age of the existing gymnasium wooden flooring, 79 years, it is in good condition. The recently installed synthetic gymnasium floor experienced premature failure primarily due to exposure to moisture. This most likely was attributed to leaks in the roof, which has since been replaced.

7) Request clarification. The existing system is about 3 1/2" thick and the one on the drawing is 1 7/8" thick. Can you confirm that this spec is accurate?

On 3/1/2019 at approximately 3:10 pm, measurement of existing floor thickness’ was made:

1. Hardwood Floor System thickness: 1 15/16”

1. Synthetic Floor thickness: 1/2"

Proposed Gym Floor Installation Thickness:

1. 7/16” Maple

1. 2 ea 1/2” or 7/16” = 1” or 7/8”

1. 3/4” Biopad = 2 1/16” or 1 15/16”
