About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file related to a federal contract opportunity for Water Sampling & Monitoring Services at the Togus, Maine VA Medical Center. The specific Q&A addresses dialysis water testing volumes and kit components, clarifying that the 156 annual dialysis tests represent a comprehensive kit with multiple testing components across three machines. The breakdown includes monthly LAL and Colony Count tests for product water and dialysate (36 tests each), and quarterly AAMI Panel tests (12 tests), totaling 156 annual dialysis tests.

The detailed response explains that these tests are part of a larger water sampling contract that involves collecting approximately 1,931 annual water samples across various departments, with VA Maine staff collecting 864 dialysis samples and the vendor responsible for the remaining 1,067 samples. The testing must comply with AAMI ST108, AAMI ISO23500, and VA DIR 1042 standards, covering utility water, critical water, steam, and dialysis water testing at multiple locations with specific frequency and reporting requirements.

QUESTION:

Under Performance Work Statement, page 10, TABLE1- the last line on the table is “Dialysis 156”, then on page 11, TABLE 2- it lists the dialysis tests to be performed but does not give annual volumes.

What are the annual sample volumes for Table-2? Are these volumes included in the estimates in Table-1 for bacteria and endotoxin?

ANSWER:

Our current vendor has a ‘kit’ for the dialysis water testing they send to us. The individual tests/components of the kit are not included in the individual test counts from table one, Dialysis with a count of 156 refers to the number of tests per year in the kits. Table 2 provides the breakdown of the test in the kit(s) to reach the156 tests.

LAL Product Water Monthly 3 Machines = 12month/yr x 3 machines = 36 tests Colony Count Product Water Monthly 3 Machines = 12months/yr x 3 machines = 36 tests LAL Dialysate Monthly 3 Machines = 12month/yr x 3 machines = 36 tests Colony Count Dialysate Monthly 3 Machines = 12months/yr 3 machines = 36 tests AAMI Panel Quarterly 3 Machines = 4 quarters/yr x 3 machines = 12 tests Grand Total Number of Dialysis Tests = 156 tests
