1. Reusable Sharps Exchange Container Service
0. Please clarify how often the sharps are required to be exchanged by the contractor for each facility.
0. Currently the solicitation shows 3XWeekly. Is that for the regulated medical waste removal or is this the requirement for the service technician?
Answer: The service technician will need to come three times a week to Providence Medical Center to consolidate full sharps containers. Red bag waste is removed from the facility three times per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Sharps are removed from the facility once per week. Red bag waste is consolidated by EMS staff.
0. Blueprint of current sharps installation for the main facility and the CBOCs if applicable. Answer: there is no current blueprint of sharp container locations. A site visit by contractor would be more beneficial.
0. Identifies the containers sizes and hardware required
1. Required to capture our capital costs as well as our cost for labor to service Answer: Currently we are using the following size sharp containers, 2gal, 4 gal, 8gal (ivory and red colored) and 16 gal (red). The 8 gal red and 16-gallon containers are mounted to a mobile cady, the rest are wall mounted on a bracket. The 8gal and 16gal red have larger openings and are used in areas such as OR/dialysis/research. A larger opening than the flip top is required in these areas.
1. Regulated Medical Waste Services
1. Please provide the containers required at each facility for the regulated medical waste.
0. Container sizes
0. Clarify if utilizing reusable tubs or corrugated boxes
1. Please provide the number of containers required per service and the total pounds annually for each facility Answer: Red bag waste is accumulated throughout the hospital in various VA owned containers. That waste is consolidated by EMS employees in a single location in building 1. The red bags are placed in 4.0cf reusable tubs or 4.2cf corrugated boxes for incineration (trace chemo waste, pathological waste, and COVID-19 waste). Over the last 10 months we have disposed of an average 317 reusable tubs per month and 48 corrugated boxes per month. The average pounds per month of red bag waste is 4,820 pounds in the reusable tubes and 615 pounds in the corrugated boxes. In FY19 we produced 97,750 pounds of red bag waste and 320 pounds of trace chemo and pathological waste (corrugated box). Red bag waste is accumulated in cardboard boxes at the Hyannis, New Bedford, and Middletown CBOCs
1. Please advise regarding the total number of Reusable Sharps containers for each Providence VAMC facility and the total quantity for each size container?
Answer: I do not have that information readily available.
1. Is a new requirement or a follow-on to an existing contract? If the latter, can I please find out the incumbent contractor's name and contract number?
Answer: This is a follow-on to an existing purchase order. Incumbent contractor: NEIE Medical Waste Services, LLC. contract number: 36C24120P0453
