Amendment Number A0001 provides VBA's response to contractor questions received for solicitation Number 36C10E19Q0320.
SEE PAGE 2
Eural A. Bennett )C VA’s Response in RED:
1. Can we get dimensions and as built drawings, especially for attic and attic ventilation? The roof dimensions are located on the drawings included in the Statement of Work, and the attic ventilation mechanical mezzanine can be provided. Attic ventilation is provided by rooftop exhaust system pressurized by mechanical fan powered by 3 hp motor. Metal soffit venting runs eves.
1. What is the manufacturer, type, and thickness of the existing single ply membrane roof? Johns Manville SR-60 single ply membrane – (60 Mil).
1. The specification calls for Malarkey shingles, what style, Legacy or Windsor? Would entertain the solution of going with a beefier/stronger shingle to handle the ice dams better. Also, extra ice shield protection in the valleys, and along the eves. Existing shingle is a Malarkey Legacy (storm gray color).
1. The existing gutter system has failed, it is currently a commercial style box gutter with seams every 10’. Will a 6”.032 aluminum gutter system with 3x4 downspouts and funnel style downspout drops be the specified replacement? Yes, if it will support drainage for the dimensions of the roof. Hoping for a seamless style gutter w/additional downspout added. Existing color is bone white.
1. Will there be a heating element product specified to help reduce the ice build-up and if so what will it be? We suggest considering either Z mesh from www.warmquest.com or heated metal valleys from www.summiticemelt.com Need an Itemized line order/option for Z mesh, and heated metal valleys.
1. Regarding the schedule, winter is fast approaching, what is the anticipated start date and how will delays from snow and cold be dealt with? Begin work ASAP and manage work around the weather; dismantle only as much as weather will permit to be completed so as not to impede operation if there is a weather delay.
1. Will the existing flat roof be replaced, repaired, or restored? Will there be additional specifications provided? Existing pvc membrane roofing is in decent shape, but if repairs are needed where there are weathered spots starting to develop it will be addressed.
1. Solicitation Statement of Work Section 3.9: Numbers 2-7, refer to a metal roofing panel system. Are we to bid to replace the shingled sections with new laminated shingles OR with a new metal roofing system? If we are to replace with new shingles, then I believe section 3.7 would be irrelevant and not consistent with a shingle roofing system. The reference to metal roofing is a “left over” in the document and should be disregarded. The solicitation is to replace the shingled sections of the roof with laminated shingles. This amendment hereby omits any reference to metal roofing or any section not consistent with shingle roofing.
