About this file

This document is a contract modification (Amendment 0003) to Solicitation 36C10D24Q0072 for Shredding Services for the VA's Seattle Regional Office and SeaTac Regional Office. The modification addresses vendor questions related to the shredding requirements, specifically allowing for the NAID standard shredding size of 1/32 inch by 1-2 inches, rather than the 1mm x 5mm requirement in the original solicitation. The modification also clarifies that shredding services can be performed on other days as coordinated with the VA. No other changes are made to the original solicitation. The response due date has been extended to March 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM EST. The previous contract price is provided via a link to the Federal Procurement Data System.

VETERANS BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION

SHREDDING SERVICES - SEATTLE

1. QUESTION: Please reconsider the paper shred size requirement in this solicitation to be the NAID standard of ¾ of an inch by 1-2 inches.

To our knowledge there is not a commercial shred truck that can produce a minimum shred size of 1 mm x 5 mm cited in the solicitation. The 1 mm x 5 mm minimum shred size applies only to one step CUI shredding, which is required for microfiche. For paper shredding the multi-step destruction approach is deemed acceptable for federal government CUI. The multi-step approach allows the paper shreds to be recycled which is both good for the environment and keeps the cost of document destruction for the government down because the recycle value of the shredded paper defrays a portion of the shredding company’s cost.

See Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) CUI Notice 2019-03 for information about this.?

ANSWER: The requirement should follow NAID standards with final destruction to be 1mm x 5mm and/or if not recycled, shall be disposed of by pulping, macerating, shredding, burning, or otherwise definitively destroying the information contained in the material.

2. QUESTION: Can the shredding services be performed on other days as long as it is coordinated with the VA?

ANSWER: Yes

3. QUESTION: What was the total price of the last contract for this service?
