About this file
This is a Feature Work List for the PKAA BPMD Plus Project in Colorado, detailing mine opening closure work across multiple adit sites. The project encompasses seven features requiring specialized closure methods including bulkheads with bat grates, adit doors with bat grates, and corrugated steel pipe installations. Work locations are distributed across multiple adits with varying depths ranging from 25 feet to over 1,000 feet, requiring different closure approaches based on site-specific conditions such as drainage presence, lining materials (rock or timber), and adit dimensions. Each feature includes specific technical specifications, UTM coordinates for site location, detailed work descriptions, and references to standard drawings (SWS 10, SWS 9, SWS 12, and SWS 14). Access constraints are significant across most sites, with several requiring helicopter access due to extreme topography, limited equipment access, and challenging terrain involving substantial elevation gains and extended hiking distances.
The work specifications indicate variable project requirements including materials such as polyurethane foam, corrugated steel pipe, timber, angle iron, and steel beams, with precise installation parameters detailed for each feature. Two features are classified as maintenance work involving bulkhead repairs and extensions, while five features represent new construction or major upgrades. Site access presents logistical challenges, with some locations requiring only walking access up to one mile with 1,100 vertical feet elevation gain, while others provide equipment access via county roads or mine roads in varying conditions. Water sourcing varies by site, with some features utilizing on-site water sources while others require water to be hauled from nearby gulches. The project requires adherence to EPA drainage pipe requirements and historic preservation considerations related to existing structural elements such as timber sets and steel sets within the mine workings.

3ft diameter, 15ft long CSP with Bat Grate and an Access Door. CSP can be assembled in sections for delivery and installation. Pour 5 CY of Polyurethane Foam (PUF) around the CSP. Place rocks in the final PUF lift at the surface when the PUF is tacky and will hold rocks in place. Backfill the final 3 feet of the CSP with on-site fill material. Old Sign at the portal says
“bad air” so an air meter will be required while working underground. No equipment access. 1 mile walk with 1,100 vertical feet elevation gain on a trail that starts at the Anglo Saxon Mine. Helicopter Access suggested.

Adit Doors with double swinging doors with bat grates.
Install the closure onto the existing steel sets. A 10 foot long 4 inch steel I-beam shall be welded to the existing steel sets, 6 inches above the wood flooring planking inside the mine, to allow water to pass unobstructed below the safety closure. Rebar will be welded to the beam 12 inches on center and run vertically into the mine floor to a minimum depth of 8 inches. The left adit door must have a top and bottom pin that extends into the top steel set and the bottom hanging I-beam to hold it into place. The right adit door will have the locking mechanism. Install 80 board feet of 2"X6"X8' long timbers in adit section where the timber lagging is missing. Equipment access available off of the Silver Wing Mine road. The road is overgrown in spots and the Burns Gulch stream crossing is rough. The road must be returned to its preconstruction condition upon completion.
