1. Con/Span bridges are manufactured by Contech not Bridge Brothers, what is the comparable product? Government is reques ng that contractor provide this informa on if they are unable to provide Contech bridges.
2. It seems that the design for this bridge is to have a steel, aluminum or stainless steel structure.
Which do you want us to quote? Please quote aluminum painted or powder coated.
3. It is my understanding that the deck and railing posts and top rail are to be composite. Bridge
Brothers can supply composite decking but NOT composite railing, is there an alterna ve that we can supply? The cable railing BB can supply. Can vendor not find a composite railing? Composite is the preferred material due to weathering issues experienced in the past with wood railing.
4. For the boardwalks, is there a preferred sec on length to use? Please clarify. Please use the exis ng dimensions, prefer 16’ between pilings.
5. It’s not clear what bridge/boardwalk callouts belong to each CLIN item. Can the Government apply the bridge and boardwalk labels from the CLIN to the sheet call outs on drawings C2 and
C3? Please refer to the updated Price Schedule Worksheet that breaks out Bridge and
Boardwalk repairs.
6. On sheet 3C trail sec on call outs, it’s not clear where the work starts and stops. Can the
Government provide marks of where the work sec ons start and stop in rela on to the trail sec ons? Unsure of the confusion on Sht 3C, all work is clearly noted on the drawing and legend. If bidder has specific ques ons please have them contact the COR directly for answers.
7. As far as the CLIN pricing, is the Contractor to provide one lump sum cost associated with each line item or is the Contractor to price each listed work item? Please clarify.
I have a ached a spreadsheet as requested to help explain how pricing should be submi ed.
8. Given the CLIN is asking for unit pricing, can the Government provide a bid schedule spreadsheet? This would assist with accurately pricing the requested work.
I have a ached a spreadsheet as requested to help explain how pricing should be submi ed.
9. Since there are op ons listed on the SF1442, is there a separate bid schedule we are required to fill out?
See above answers. (7&8)
10. When quo ng the boardwalk, is there a preferred width of the gangplanks? Please match dimension width for the bridges (60”).
11. What dewatering and erosion control measures are required for this project? Contractor shall provide a watering and erosion control plan to be approved by staff and COR.
12. Is a traffic control plan required for this project and if so, does the government have ideal loca ons of where road closure signs are needed?
This can be discussed during the pre‐construc on mee ng.
13. Is the assump on that there will be no public traffic flow for the pedestrian bridges while work is proceeding? Do any of the bridges need to remain opera onal while the contractor is working on others?
This assump on is correct. Public access to the areas will be closed during construc on at each of the sites. This can also be discussed during the pre‐construc on mee ng.
14. Does the government have an an cipated award ming? The specifica ons state no work is to be performed during September. How will this affect the contract period of performance? Work in
Sept can’t be done on Migrants Mile Trail (Asphalt Trail, Bridges A, B, D, and Boardwalk C).
Regardless of month the boardwalk at Li le Salt Marsh and Bridges 28 & 30.
15. Is there a specified seed mix required for this project in case any of the adjacent areas are disturbed??
Yes. The following seed mix and guidance is required for this project/site.
Site Restoration (Seeding) following Migrants Mile Project Construction Activities
Contractor shall provide native local ecotype seed prepared appropriately for planting as part of reconstruction/restoration of native prairie in Kansas (preferably collected within 200 miles of project area, if available). Timing of seeding will occur after projects are complete (e.g., bridge and path improvements), seeded area is properly prepped to promote success in restoration of site as a result of the seeding, and when native seed germination and growth of will be favorable and most likely to succeed.
Seeding may need to be postponed and extended to a later date if drought conditions prevent a successful restoration planting. Treatment of invasive non-native species (e.g., annual brome) should occur as part of seedbed preparation prior to seeding.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Seed mix must use native local ecotypes, have medium to high species diversity (>15 species), and contain 75% forb/legume seed and 25% grass seed (desirable species provided below). Seed must be appropriate for the sandy site conditions.
2. Seed mix must have an appropriate blend of seed species. In other words, the seed mix includes a balance of annual/short-lived and perennial forbs, legumes, and grass and will not result in one to few species dominating the seeded area.
3. The seeded area will include forbs that collectively support pollinators throughout most of the growing season (April – September). The seed must be native and appropriate for the region/site.
4. Seed used must be recently collected and tested by a certified lab verifying genetic purity and high germination ability.
5. Seed must be local ecotypes, from a regional source, or adapted to the plant zone hardiness of central Kansas (locally adapted to soils, climate, rainfall, geology and pests). Seeds are NOT genetically manipulated.
6. Seed must be Certified “clean” (weed-free); --only native prairie plant species in the seed mix, AND not include high amounts of inert matter/chaff that would cause problems when seeding. Seed provided by the contractor will contain NO non-native plant species.
DESIRABLE SPECIES
Forbs – butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa spp. Interior), showy milkweed (Asclepias speciosa), blue sage (Salvia azurea), western spotted beebalm (Monarda punctata var. occidentalis), dotted blazingstar (Liatris punctata), prairie or upright coneflower (Ratibida columnifera), blue and/or hoary or woolly vervain (Verbena hastata and/or V. stricta), purple prairie clover (Dalea purpurea var. purpurea), partridge pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata), and leadplant (Amorpha canescens). Sunflowers and goldenrod are locally abundant aggressive native forbs that are expected to spread to the seeded area naturally and, therefore, are not included in the list of desirable species for the seed mix. If included in the seed mix, then amounts used should be extremely low to prevent domination of seeded area by these species.
Grasses – big bluestem, indiangrass, sideoats grama, little bluestem, and Canada wildrye.
16. Is a rebar detail available for concrete bridge footers? Is rebar not required for bridge footers?
Please refer to Detail #4 on Sht 6C
17. Spec sec on 02 41 13 – 3.6A states that Pedestrian Bridge 29 is to be removed, however, the drawings state that it is to remain. Please advise.
Spec sec on 02 41 13‐3.6A is correct as wri en ‐ Bridge 29 is not to be included as part of the solicita on. Disregard any reference to Bridge 29 within the drawings.
