This is a Request for Bids (RFB) document from the Muskegon County Department of Finance & Management for Alfalfa Sales, specifically seeking buyers for alfalfa production on six agricultural fields (Fields 3, 4, 13, 27, 31A, and 35) at the Muskegon County Resource Recovery Center. The solicitation is for a four-year contract covering the 2025-2028 crop years, with fields totaling approximately 521 acres to be planted in the spring of 2025. Key dates include a deadline for questions on March 18, 2025, a Zoom meeting link provided for bidders, and a proposal deadline of March 25, 2025 at 10am. The alfalfa will be grown using partially treated wastewater for irrigation and sold standing in the field, with an anticipated four cuttings per year and a maximum of three cuttings in the seeding year.
Pricing will be based on per-ton rates for alfalfa adjusted to 32% dry matter, with bidders required to provide moisture-adjusted pricing for each specific field. The County will be responsible for crop management, including pest control, fertilization, and field maintenance, while the purchaser will handle harvesting, equipment, and labor. Payment terms include paying within 30 days of invoice after each cutting, with all alfalfa to be weighed at the County Grain Center scales. The contract includes provisions for insurance requirements, with the successful bidder needing to provide worker's compensation, commercial general liability, and automobile liability insurance. The County explicitly states it makes no warranties about the alfalfa's quality or suitability for livestock feed and retains total control over crop management methods.
