Department of Defense Education Activity 4800 Mark Center Drive
Alexandria, VA 22350

AP® Art History Custom Content
1. General Information and Scope of Work
1.1 Agency
For school year (SY) 2024-25, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) will provide PK-12 instruction in 161 schools to over 67,000 dependents of military and civilian employees. Student enrollment is based primarily on deployment of military troops worldwide. In the Americas, DoDEA operates 50 schools located in seven states, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. In Europe and the Middle East, DoDEA operates 64 schools located in Germany, England, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, Bahrain, and Italy. In the Pacific, DoDEA operates 46 schools located in Korea, Japan (mainland and Okinawa), and Guam. DoDEA also operates a fully accredited virtual high school with teaching hubs in the Americas, Europe, and Pacific. DoDEA's curriculum, resources and student achievement scores on standardized assessments compare favorably to those of high-performing US public school systems.
1.2 Background
Using a statement of objectives, DoDEA procured custom content for Advanced Placement® (AP®) Macroeconomics in fiscal year 2023. DoDEA’s Development Team, which consists of subject matter experts (SMEs), classroom teachers, and instructional designers, used the procured content to design and develop the course. This requirement is similar in scope and magnitude but is for AP® Art History.
1.3 Scope of Work
DoDEA requires course content that meets the College Board standards for quality curriculum, instruction, and assessments for an online AP® Art History course and the DoDEA College and Career Readiness Standards for Literacy (CCRSL), which may be found at the following URL: https://www.dodea.edu/education/college-and-career-ready/english-literacy.
2 Requirements
2.1 Custom Content: The Contractor shall provide customized AP® Art History course content comparable to or superior in quality to the same course content offered in high-performing US public school systems.
The AP® Art History course will introduce students to the global art world to engage with its forms and content as they research, discuss, read, and write about art, artists, art making, and responses to and interpretations of art.
By investigating the 250 works of art required by the College Board characterized by diverse artistic traditions from prehistory to the present, the students will develop in-depth, holistic understanding of the history of art from a global perspective. Students will learn and apply skills of visual, contextual, and comparative analysis to engage with a variety of art forms, developing understanding of individual works and interconnections across history.
The AP® Art History course includes two essential components: art historical thinking skills and course content. The art historical thinking skills are central to the study and practice of art history. Students will develop and apply the skills on a regular basis over the span of the course.
The course content is organized into commonly taught units of study that provide a suggested sequence for the course, and detail required content and conceptual understandings that colleges and universities typically expect students to master to qualify for college credit and/or placement.
Supporting Tasks
The tasks below are to help the Contractor gain a better understanding of the requirements to successfully meet the objective. They are not all inclusive, so the Contractor is expected to develop the total solution to meet all the requirements in accordance with a performance-based approach.
