About this file

The Suwannee River Water Management District has issued an Invitation to Bid (ITB) No. 24/25-010 for an Apiary Lease covering eight 0.25-acre sites located within Dixie and Taylor Counties. The solicitation seeks a three-year lease for two tracts - Steinhatchee Falls Tract (4 sites in Taylor County) and Steinhatchee Rise Tract (4 sites in Dixie County) - to conduct apiary operations. Bids are due on June 2, 2025, prior to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, with an anticipated start date in July 2025. Bidders must submit their proposals electronically through DemandStar and must be bonded, licensed, and insured.

The lease allows between 120 and 360 colonies per 0.25-acre site, with a minimum of 10 acres for foraging. Bidders must comply with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Beekeeper Compliance Agreement and include permanent markings and warning signs at the apiary sites. The annual rent will remain consistent throughout the three-year lease term, and bid awards will be based on the total lease amount. The District encourages participation by minority and veteran-owned businesses and provides preferences for these groups when service providers are ranked equally. Bidders must also meet specific requirements related to public entity crimes, scrutinized companies, and insurance coverage.
