QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. What type of finish is required on the stainless-steel ramp & landing rails? I did see something about removing paint before welding in the field but I’m not sure if they were talking about the rails or something else.
a. The complete railing system is stainless steel – no painted rails.
2. Is the L-shaped landing rail on the east end of the upper platform, getting replaced as well?
a. No, the east section of railing is not getting replaced.
3. I also saw something about the window wells being removed and replaced and noticed they have rails around them, do you need rail or grating for those new window wells?
a. There is no work on any window wells.
4. There’s a section of railing on the east side of the platform. Does that need to be replaced too?
a. No, that piece will remain as is.
5. The existing ramp has two sections of handrail that extend about 4 1/2 feet east of the ramp, are those required to be reinstalled?
a. The only section that needs to go back in is the southern extension. The northern one can be eliminated.
6. How should the trench drain discharge pipe be terminated on the east side?
a. The pipe should extend through the east wall 8 inches and 90 down to 6 inches off grade.

7. The project narrative talks about the trench strain work being done on a Saturday, is it possible to do it in sections during weekdays?
a. The trench drain can be done in sections but at all times either the east doors need to be accessible or the west pair of doors. Contractor will be required to remove the small section of glass wall at the interior vestibule during construction and reinstall it at completion. See the following photos.
8. Are we to replace the ramp profile as is, with the two flat landings?
a. Yes, the replacement of the ramp is matching the existing profile with the two flat landings.
9. At the pre-bid walk-through it was talked about at the location of the trench drain. The original old steps will be encountered during excavation. Scope of work should be planned as part of the bid.
a. The contractor should factor in having to remove enough depth of existing steps to get the new trench drain installed. The GC should assume the first step starts right under the trench drain location.
10. There is a chamfer where the existing concrete cap meets the foundation wall should the new concrete cap also have the camper where it meets the foundation wall chamfer?
a. Yes, the new ramp surface where it meets the foundation wall should be chamfered to match existing profile.
11. It was pointed out at the walk-through that the guard rail section of the ramp railing system stops at the first flat landing area and then transitions into just a handrail height section
a. Yes, as pointed out, the guard rail height section only needs to go as far as the current railing system, and then it turns into the handrail height, guard rail system for the remainder of the ramp.
12. We’re looking to get clarification on the railing material types: can we use a
3/4” x 1/4 inch flat bar right underneath the railing and 1/2“ twisted pickets and 3/4” main post; all those products would match the existing profiles.
a. Yes, the goal is to match the existing railing profiles as close as possible, including the profiles of the twisted pickets.
