Project Statement:

Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP) is looking to construct a new Field Office and Waste Management Facility on Mackinac Island to service the Mackinac Island State Park.

The existing Field Office, which includes a small office and storage rooms, is located in a portion of a historic structure which does not provide ADA accessibility. MSHP would like to create a new Field Office which would include a lobby, reception counter and two work stations, two offices, conference room, copier area, staff break room (for 10 staff), staff ADA toilets and storage for supplies and printed material.

The existing Waste Management Facility is located on the north end of a pole barn that also houses a lumber storage area. The Waste Management Facility is where garbage is gathered, then consolidated and transferred to British Landing for removal from the island. The existing facility moves approximately 65-70 tons of waste a year, but is operationally inefficient. MSHP would like to create a new, dedicated Waste Management Facility that includes two large bays (approximately 40’ x 40’ with 12’ x 14’ overhead doors to each bay), with water and proper waste drainage. The bays would house general garbage and solid construction material waste respectively. MSHP would like to investigate the option of creating a recycling area to reduce the amount of garbage and also look into a compactor to reduce the amount of hauling required.

Utilities (water, sanitary sewer and electrical) are located within close proximity of both proposed locations.

See attached aerials for reference.
