If a malfunction occurs during the test, the test shall be restarted each time until all tests in 4.7 are completed without a malfunction. Three (3) consecutive failures without completion of the test may be considered cause for rejection of the system.
For the purpose of this test, a “failure” is defined as any equipment malfunction which requires remedial action to restore the system to full operation in accordance with this specification.
4.7.1 Accuracy Tests. Tests shall be conducted to ensure the machine meets the accuracy tolerances specified in paragraph 3.5. The machine repeatability and accuracy shall be checked.
4.7.2 Operational Test. The furnace system and its components shall be prepared for operation according to the manufacturer’s operating instruction manual. Through inputs to the system controller, the furnace shall be ramped up from ambient until the work zone has reached an operating temperature of 375° F (± 10° F), and the work zone has been allowed to stabilize at this temperature. Once the ramp up has been accomplished and the chamber temperature has stabilized, a component with a mass of approximately 80lbs shall be positioned in the furnace work zone on a heatpad. At this time, the furnace door shall be closed. With the workload in the heating chamber and the door closed, the furnace shall operate at maximum power input until the furnace heating chamber has recovered and stabilized at 375° F (± 10° F), which will take a maximum time of 30 minutes. At this time, the furnace will perform a twenty-four (24) hour heating cycle. At the end of the heating cycle the furnace door shall be opened and the power to the furnace system shall be turned off. The furnace shall be allowed to cool down to ambient temperature. With the furnace cooled, the furnace, all components and the furnace work zone shall be inspected for damage. Furnace interior and exterior walls, interior air distribution ductwork, furnace insulation, furnace door and door seals, and insulation shall be inspected for evidence of any buckling, bending, or permanent deformation. Any furnace system instruments that are required to operate tilt/tilted conditions shall be tested.
4.7.3 Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) and System Accuracy Test (SAT).
The TUS and SAT shall comply with SAE AMS 2750, Pyrometry section 3.3.1 and for furnace classification.
4.7.4 Audible Noise Level Test. The equipment shall be tested for compliance with paragraph 3.1.4. “Audible Noise Level”.
