About this file
This is a construction document set prepared by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Engineering Services for road maintenance at Cedar Rock State Park in Buchanan County, Iowa. The project scope includes granular roadway maintenance consisting of blading and shaping the roadway, shoulder work, pothole repair, minor ditch cleaning, spreading and rolling new rock, and replacement of one 18-inch concrete culvert. Key estimated quantities include 29.4 station miles of roadway reconstruction blading/shaping, 29.4 station miles of shoulder reconstruction, 0.5 station miles of ditch reshaping and cleaning, 343 tons of granular surfacing (Class A crushed stone), 3 tons of granular backfill, 2 concrete culvert aprons (18 inch), 12 concrete culvert pipe sections (18 inch), 10 tons of erosion stone, 1 lump sum for traffic control, 1 lump sum for mobilization, and 0.25 acres for seed and fertilize work. The project has an approximate start date of September 30, 2026, with 25 working days allocated for completion. The bid closing date is June 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM, with bids to be submitted electronically.
The construction plans were prepared by Bruce L. Flippin, a licensed professional engineer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and are dated January 2024. Project management and construction inspection will be overseen by Ken Howe (319-240-3553) and Daniel Pfeifer (515-901-6261) of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The contractor is required to coordinate with TNT Tuckpointing regarding an ongoing tuckpointing and retaining wall project and may have the opportunity to start work earlier than the approximate start date. The contractor must conduct a site visit to familiarize themselves with conditions and verify dimensions and elevations. All work must conform to applicable codes and ordinances, follow Iowa DOT Standard Specifications (Series 2023, Section 1108), and be subject to approval by the DNR Engineer. The contractor is responsible for identifying and protecting existing utilities, providing erosion control measures, and identifying appropriate waste disposal or material haul sites.
