About this file

This document is a project description and bid specifications for a pavement preservation project issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for the Mines of Spain Recreation Area in Dubuque County. The project involves HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) patching on Mines of Spain Road, approximately ¼ mile north of the Monument Drive intersection, focusing on the southbound lane. Specifically, the work includes three patch areas of 80 feet x 10 feet, 150 feet x 10 feet, and 300 feet x 10 feet, requiring removal of existing deteriorated asphalt and replacement. The estimated project quantities include mobilization, traffic control, full-depth patch finishing, and various hot mix asphalt mixtures and binders, totaling approximately 590 square yards of patches and 98.2 cubic yards of subbase.

The project requires careful coordination with the DNR Engineer, who will mark out specific locations prior to work starting. Contractors are expected to visit the site, inspect the project area, and familiarize themselves with job conditions. Work is restricted, with no activities allowed from 12 noon Friday until the following Monday and no work permitted on holidays. The contractor must provide waste disposal areas for excess materials, avoid disturbing grass and trees outside construction limits, and coordinate any potential road closures with park staff, providing two weeks' notice for public notification. All work must conform to Iowa DOT specifications and be performed in accordance with applicable codes and ordinances.
