Text version

Prior work at NCATS and by NCATS collaborators has established that the conditionally priming certain cell types with a variety of naturally occurring metabolites can alter the effects of certain drugs. One of the key classes of biomolecules are lipids (fatty acids). Among the best studies is oleic acid. However, while it is known that oleic acid plays a role in a variety of cellular process its exact mechanism remains a mystery. This work requires the synthetic preparation of a structural analog of oleic acid with a diazirine functional group and a terminal alkyne capable of probing the protein binding partners of oleic acid. The full multi-step synthesis must be accomplished in a manner that provides the desired compound, all characterization data, a stability assessment and full experimental details.
