Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose:
The need is to split our existing single unit recording system between two different recording rooms so that each room can support 320 channels of electrophysiology recording.
2. Background Information and Objective:
The Laboratory of Neuropsychology studies the relationships between brain and behavior during cognitive task. The equipment is needed to study of learning and decision making in nonhuman primates. Currently, we can make such recordings in two laboratory rooms. We need to expand this capability to a third recording room. The most economical approach is to move some of the components from one system and use them to build out a new system for the third room. The purchase is for the remainder of the components necessary to complete the system in the third room. Once this move and upgrade is complete, the studies will investigate the neuronal substrates of key behaviors often linked to both normal development and major neuropsyciatric disorders, central to the mission of the Mental Health institute.
3. Generic Name of Product:
320 channel recording system.
4. Purchase Description:
Necessary components:
i. Grapevine Trek NIP, R04400
ii. Grapevine Onanon to Circular 4:1 FE Cable, R03014
iii. Grapevine Onanon to Circular 1:1 FE Cable, R03011
iv. Grapevine Double I/O Cable (Micro-D), R01129
v. Grapevine Onanon to Circular 2:1 FE Cable, R03012
5. Salient characteristics
The front end amplifiers must be fully compatible with existing Grapevine Neural Interface Processors (NIP), a proprietary data acquisition system produced by Ripple Neuro and used extensively in the Laboratory of Neuropsychology. The Grapevine system is an integrated system that uses Nano or Nano2 32-channel recording head stages and can be fully controlled with Grapevine software system. The Nano or Nano2 use either Omnetics Bi-Lobe connectors or specific circular Omnetics connectors that attached to the NIP through a Ripple Neuro front end cable. The Analog and Digital front end amplifiers must also operate through existing Ripple cabling and be fully controlled and compatible with the Grapevine NIP and Grapevine software. 100% compatibility is required, with the exception allowed for passive adapters.
