About this file
This is a Questions and Responses document for a Request for Bid (RFB) issued by the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for bathroom ceramic tile coating services across six campus buildings: Baldwin Hall, Neale Hall, Knutzen Hall, Burroughs Hall, Watson Hall, and Thomson Hall. The project involves refinishing and applying epoxy coating to ceramic tile floors and walls in bathroom facilities. A mandatory pre-bid site visit is required on January 12th, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. CST, with attendees meeting outside Baldwin Hall to tour all six specified locations. Bidders must complete and have a Certificate of Site Visitation form signed by a university representative and submit it with their bid. All bid submissions must be completed online through the SciQuest bidding platform at https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=UWisconsin, with bids due by February 2nd, 2026. Prospective bidders should contact Mike Carriere (mcarrier@uwsp.edu) or Jason Zinda (jzinda@uwsp.edu) to confirm site visit attendance and direct questions to Jesse Crain (jcrain@uwsp.edu).
The document addresses a contractor's inquiry regarding the specification of a different product than the Tnemec (Stranlok) coating system previously installed approximately six years ago. The University clarified that the previous Tnemec system did not perform as expected and began peeling in several areas, prompting feedback from Housing, Facilities, and Custodial staff to reject it as a viable alternative for this bidding. No budget ranges, set-asides, disadvantaged enterprise requirements, incumbent vendor information, or specific pricing terms are included in the available procurement documentation.

UW Stevens Point Bathroom Ceramic Tile Coating Questions and Responses
1) The contractor is asking why the current bid specifies a different product than the Tnemec (Stranlok) coating system that was previously installed approximately six years ago in the dorm bathrooms, and whether the change is due to performance issues with the previously applied system.
Response:
Based on feedback from Housing, Facilities, and Custodial staff, the previously installed Tnemec (Stranlok) coating system did not perform as expected and began peeling in several areas. Due to these performance concerns, it is not being accepted as a viable alternative for this bidding.
