GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

All-season stainless-steel combination dump body with 201 stainless steel, with a ¼” Hardox 450 floor.

Minimum 150-gal pre wet system with rear spray bar for liquid magnesium. (MUST HAVE)

The body shall be designated to operate as a traditional contractor type dump body and as a front salt discharge spreader. A “U” shaped combination dump body spreader will not be accepted as an equivalent. The body shall be radius bend or roll formed construction (not break formed).

Body length 13’ to 14’

Width 96”

Side Height 32” or less

Tailgate height Same as body

The front panel will be made of 3/16”AR255 hi-tensile commercial steel 190,000 psi with four vertical “c” channels welded to the face forming ribs, with no inside welds or voids from inside the body.

The left-hand side of the body will be made of 3/16” AR225 with minimum yield strength of

190,000 PSI tensile strength.

The reloading floor, tailgate panel and conveyor covers will be made of ¼” Hardox 400 and have a minimum tensile strength of 190,000 PSI.

A stationary right side hand outer wall will not be considered primarily for safety reasons; it will be one piece moving side, not to exceed 37-degree dump angle. The moving outer wall will have considerable strength and durability, it will add to the overall body design when heavily loaded and reduce light weight of the body by not having stationary side. The moving outer wall also eliminates pinch points and blind spots while doing maintenance.

The tailgate will be reinforced by two 5”x 3” minimum section vertical posts and three 7”x 3” top, mid and bottom braces. All horizontal bracing will have a dirt shedding effect. Tailgate will be welded

100%. Skip welded tailgates will not be accepted. The braces will be all rolled formed no knife edges.

The body sides will be reinforced vertically by a front and rear corner post of 13” minimum cross section, two side posts and horizontally by a 4”x 3” minimum roll formed tubular steel section top capping along with a slanted dirt shedding rub rail. The side panel, top panel and braces will be roll formed, and the side post will be on a 45-degree angle with sides formed at a 45-degree angle, all roll formed.

Sideboard pockets will be provided and will also have gussets to support the center of the sideboard. Lifting eyes will be incorporated in the side board pockets. This will enable the removal of this body without damaging any painted surfaces if the need arises. An EZ 2-step ladder will be installed on the driver’s side under mount stow and will have proper hand rail to assist in climbing up the side of the body.

A longitudinal conveyor located on the left-hand side shall feed a material chute and a spinner disc ahead of the truck rear wheels (i.e. no center auger). The conveyor will be bolt-on removable with a minimum of 12-5/8” grade 5 stainless steel bolts. The polyethylene non-stick chute will be reinforced by a complete steel support chute.

One safety prop to support dump body when servicing will be installed in the cylinder cradle. The safety prop will be provided with an adjustable stopper to automatically align with the dump body receiving pocket. One safety prop will be provided to support the reloading floor when being serviced.

Body understructure will be of the stacked type understructure, consisting of 4” at 5.4 pounds per square foot of channel cross members welded and gusseted to a 10”at 25 pounds per square foot of structural I-beam long member.

The bottom and side of the reloading floor will be fully supported by 4 C-channel sections welded directly to the body floor plate to achieve an average 14” cross member spacing.

To prevent material hang-ups and corrosion, a honeycomb structure underneath the floor plate will not be accepted neither will be tubing understructure’s or formed long sills.

Reloading floor hinge shall be Piano type full length 11 section with remote grease lines hydraulic hose type, mounted to manifolds on the four corners of the body. No other floor hinge will be accepted.

A 21” cab protector will be made of stainless steel, and the corners will be square with 2 front facing LED and 2 side facing LED lights oval holes. LED strobes in rear sides of dumb body as well.

Tailgate latches will be fully adjustable to compensate for wear. All threaded tailgate adjusting hardware parts will be coated in Never Seize.

Latch system will be designed with over center cam locking mechanism to ensure positive locking of the tailgate. The lower pivot arms and cross arm will be stainless steel with remote grease pivot points. 2 or 3 asphalt type doors will be located in the tailgate. Tailgate will also be equipped with turn buckle style tailgate safeties and as the tailgate latching system will be controlled by a double acting air cylinder with a minimum of 8” of travel and will have a 3” piston. Double acting air cylinder is the only latching mechanism that will be accepted. A pressure protection valve will be installed on the air gate system to ensure air pressure priority for the truck air brake system.

The front telescopic hoist will be an inverted type with the small section attached to the cylinder cradle. It will have four sections and have a 30-ton capacity. This cylinder will provide a minimum dump angle of 45º. Each section will be ground then polished. The hoist cylinder will carry a full replacement two-year warranty.

The rear dump body hinge will be fully welded to the pintle hitch plate and will have a 40-ton capacity. Hinge pins will be secured by clamping pressure from the pin retainers. Hinge pins will also have plate retainers welded to the 4 x 4 x ⅜ angle iron. The seven pin receptacle and glad hand brackets will be located on the hinge and will allow for easy connection of trailer electrical and air.

The pintle hitch will be a ¾” high tensile steel plate welded and gusseted to the rear of the frame.

All welds will be triple pass. A BP760 swivel type hitch and B50 D-rings will be installed on the hitch plate. The hitch plate and hitch will not interfere with the ability to property dump into the paving box.

Two differential displacement hydraulic cylinders will operate the reloading floor. The two double acting cylinders must be connected in series and operate in phase at all times without the use of flow dividers. (This is a mandatory requirement.) A t-connection between cylinders will not be accepted. This method does not truly synchronize the floor operation evenly and creates stress on the floor hinges and causes cylinders to leak prematurely.

Reloading floor cylinders will be manufactured with stainless steel rod ends and stainless-steel mounting pins to include grease groves, and covered with a full 2-year warranty against leakage and corrosion. Chromed cylinder rods or cylinders with nitride rods are not acceptable.

A rubber scraper between the reloading floor and the front wall will be installed. Polyethylene scrapers are not accepted.

Conveyor chain will be an extra heavy duty pintle type Model 88KI. 667 x or equivalent conveyor chains will not be accepted. Total break strength of pintle type chain will be 49,000 lbs. The chain pitch will be 2.609”. Flights will have a dimension of 3/8” x 1 ¼” and will be welded at every second link. The ends shall be bent upwards to allow welding on both sides. Conveyor drive shaft will be a minimum 1.75” in diameter. Two sprockets will be provided on the conveyor drive shaft made of chromed nickel alloy with a minimum of 7 teeth, with double shoulders to support the conveyor chain links. Sprockets on both ends of the chain are required to reduce premature wear all sprockets will have shoulders on them, no idler or rollers.

Conveyor shafts will be mounted in sealed roller type bearings and will be fitted with grease fittings that are remote mounted to one of the four corners of the body. The speed reducer will be a 25:1 ratio and will have a bronze type worm gear packed solid with lubricant plate grease. The conveyor drive assembly gearbox, drive shaft, drive sprockets and flange bearings will be bolted for ease of servicing and removing. Conveyor chain tension will be accomplished by stainless steel rod adjusters.

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND COMPONENTS

The hydraulic system will consist of a direct mount, electrically actuated, PTO mounted to the world transmission. The PTO will be a 277XBFJPB5RA Chelsea Hot Shift design. This PTO coupled with a

Muncie PK 20 two-inch gear pump will deliver 19 gallons per minute at 1,000 RPM’s. NO

EXCEPTIONS to this requirement.

LIGHTING AND ELECTRICAL

A warning system with 360 degrees of visible warning light shall be built into the dump body. Each front corner of the cab shield shall contain a stainless-steel housing, and housing shall contain two

(2) Whalen 400 Series Super-LED warning light fixtures. One (1) light in each housing will face forward, and one (1) light in each housing will face toward its side of truck. The light fixtures shall be connected using Deutsch waterproof connectors to a 60’, 4 conductors, 14-gauge oil resistant

TPR cable to a centralized solid-state flasher. Light fixtures with built in flashers that lack synchronization are not acceptable. Built into each rear corner post of the dump body shall be a stainless-steel housing, each containing a 700 Series Super-LED Backup Lamp, and a 700 Series LED

Brake/Tail lamp. The warning lights shall be connected using Deutsch waterproof connectors to a

30’ 2 conductor, 14-gauge oil resistant TPR cable to a centralized solid-state flasher. Light fixtures with built in flashers that lack synchronization are not acceptable. Brake/Tail lamp and backup lamps shall be connected using Deutsch waterproof connectors to a 30’, 5 conductors, 18-gauge oil resistant TPR cable to its appropriate terminal within the truck chassis.

Two sealed junction boxes will be mounted in the cab. One junction box will contain the cable splice for the rear lights on the body, ICC light bar and license plate light. The second junction box will have the electrical connections for the strobes, floodlights and any additional connections required to complete the installation. Every wire that is stripped of its insulation to complete a splice or connection will be soldered or tinned and then properly sealed from the weather. This requirement is mandatory.

The power cable exiting the cab will be properly insulated. Any holes cut in the floorboards for electrical cable or harness routing will pass through a snug fit grommet and then sealed using an

RTV silicone. Additional switches that are installed to perform various functions will be a Wired Rite product. Each switch will have a lighted feature illuminating the function of that switch. The Wired

Rite products are available with a molded harness that can be ordered in sufficient length that no splicing is required to reach the desired function. The Wired Rite system will come equipped with the proper circuit breakers required to protect each function. These electrical switches will come in a panel that will be properly fitted in the stainless-steel console or in the dash.

A separate master switch will be installed to isolate the added electrical functions from the factory chassis electrical. This will ensure a quicker trouble shooting procedure should any electrical problems occur. Plow lights will be Truck Lite as well, and will be mounted on custom brackets either bolted to the hood or on brackets welded to the fender mounted mirrors.

PLOW FRAME

Custom in house fabricated plow frames will be allowed; however, the actual construction and installation must be approved by City of Bristol Public Works Department, Streets Division.

The City presently uses a Henderson style plow hitch. The new plow hitch will be similar profile outside frame mount with no rearward cheek plates to include 8-5/8 “HUCK” bolts per side for mounting, and be designed to push off the frame end rails. A drawing shall be submitted with the proposal. The plow lifting arm will be controlled by a double acting hydraulic cylinder. The plow hitch side plates will have a minimum thickness of ⅝”.

This plow hitch will be designed to allow the hood to fully tilt forward without having to remove any fasteners or pins. Huck type fasteners will be used to secure all attachments of the plow frame to the chassis. The cross over relief valve will be mounted in this general area and must allow for easy access and servicing if needed. Quick couplings will be supplied for the plow hydraulic connections, and will include a cushion valve frame mounted on the truck.

SNOW PLOW

The City of Bristol requires provision of Henderson model RSP 11’ x 36-ST, RH moldboard cut with adjustable cutting-edge trip, cushion valve with rubber deflector and curb guard, to also include cable lift and cushion valve on plow. Other plows will have to be approved Fleet Div.

PAINT

Entire body will be sand blasted, acid etched, two coats of two-part epoxy primer applied and painted in polyurethane paint. Additional paint and hardener will be supplied for touch up. Paint will be black.

Conspicuity tape will be installed in the required locations after paint. All safety decals will be installed after paint.

MAGNESIUM TANK SYSTEM

Pre-wet system reservoir will consist of one (1) 150+ liquid tank, installed with a detachable spray bar mounted under the hitch with receiver. A stainless-steel compartment will house the pump and controls. Pump shall be hydraulic and shall be capable of delivering 20 gallons per minute. Fill point will have a 2” cam lock type coupling. A pressure gauge will be located at the pump. A gem flow meter will be connected inline to the nozzle type injectors. Controls to the pre wet system will be installed either in dash or on the back side of the console.

TARPING SYSTEM

Hydraulic tarping system will be provided and installed. The operation of the tarping system will be incorporated into the vehicle’s hydraulic system. A toggle controller will activate the desired double acting spool section to cover and uncover the load. The tarp system will incorporate a sure method of locking the tarp roller in place both front and rear to prevent the wind from lifting or unrolling the tarp (i.e. relying on hydraulic pressure alone is not adequate). A heavy-duty canvas tarp approved for asphalt will be used.

IN-CAB CONSOLE AND CONTROLS

The custom console will be fabricated of 304 stainless steel. The console will be manufactured and installed in a manner that will be user friendly and not interfere with the driver and the daily driving of the vehicle. A user-friendly accessory package is the primary goal of this bid package. Every detail must have both operator and mechanic in mind. The ergonomics of control placement must be taken into consideration while designing and locating controls. Final layout will be approved by the

City of Bristol Highway Department personnel.

Every function will be laser etched into the top panel and will properly describe the function of that controller. Large access panels will be located on both sides of the console to allow easy access for servicing. Access panels will have 4 laser cut keyhole slots to allow easy removal and installation.

Access panels and cover plate will be fastened with ¼” slotted head screws. All controllers will be pneumatic feathering controllers to include the following: a joystick controller will be used to operate the plow up/down and left/right, toggle style controllers will be used to operate the body up/down, inner floor panel up/down and to operate the cover and uncover operations of the tarp system. Body up/down controller will have a guard to prevent accidentally raising and lowering the body.

The spreader controller will be mounted in a separate aluminum console. The side access panels will be the same design as the stainless-steel console. Each hose will be sheathed separately in fire proof sheathing. The sheathing will be secured by the use of Band It clamps on both ends. Band It clamps will be placed directly on the crimped end of the fitting and not on the hose itself. Split loom or spiral wrap will not be accepted. The sheathing is to help deflect heat and protect the hoses from chaffing. This is mandatory requirement. The new truck engines create excessive heat, and precautions must be taken to heat shield the hose and prevent a spray out in case of hose failure. The main valve will be MP4 type with valve tank enclosure behind the cab to include Bio Blend soy-based hydraulic oil and filter.

The pre-wet system controller panel can be mounted on the back side of the console or in the dash.

The location of this panel must be discussed with the City of Bristol Highway Department personnel for approval before installation.

Any electrical switches added to complete this installation will be manufactured by Wired Rite or approved equivalent, with panel to include lighting for each function and to come with a sealed harness. Sealed harness shall be of ample length, requiring no splicing.

A copy of the body, tarp electrical, and hydraulic manuals will be supplied, as well as two (2) copies of the operator and parts manuals, all provided digitally.

Any deviations to the above listed requirements must be listed separately below. Any modifications to these bid specs must be explained in full detail. The City of Bristol Public Works Department must approve and sign off on any modifications not covered in these specifications.

The selected vendor to provide the truck body shall submit a letter from each manufacture they are providing equipment from related to this purchase. The letter must affirm they are the authorized dealer representing that product, in that area and are authorized to perform warranty work for the manufacture. The letter will be on the manufacture letterhead mail directly to: City of Bristol, Attn.

Purchasing, 111 North Main Street, Bristol, CT 06010. The letter shall also provide contact information, including a cell phone number, of the authorized representative of the manufacture should the City need to contact them.

Your signature on the bid form ensures the City of Bristol Public Works Department that your proposal is in full compliance with these specifications.
